  • Franklin Islands Day 1

    October 15, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Another good weather window, means another trip out to an island.

We decided to hit up an old fav, Franklin Island. Jared and his mum were meant to come out, but unfortunately boat troubles meant they couldn’t come. So Brett, the kids and a tag along, Peyton headed out.

First stop was the main island, my fav for collecting shells! We chilled here, swimming and shell collecting while the kids played on the shore building cubbies out of all the washed up drift wood.

In the afternoon, we decided we would check out Normandy Island. This is where the tour boat comes out to. The snorkeling was not great, but there was turtles!!! Peyton has never snorkeled with turtles before and was extremely excited, when she got ashore she needed to sit down because all the excitement had made her legs shaky 🤣.

We spent the night back over on our main Island, where the kids played and swam until dark and were made to get back in the boat.

Brett and I crashed out, while the kids chilled in the cabin and watched a movie 🎦.

  • High Island Beach 1

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Day 2

After a morning shell collection, we headed over to High Island. Another 1st.

High Island went above and beyond what we were expecting. The first bay we stopped to explore in was epic.

We could not wait to get in the water and get ashore. We found coconut trees and got excited. Brett rigged up the coconut cutter 2000, as the tree was quite high. He succeeded and we got about 20 coconuts, yum!

The kids spent a few hours, jumping off the rocks and playing games with the empty coconuts 🤣.

  • High Island Beach 2

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

    Day 2

Just around the corner from the first bay, was this beauty. Even better than the first!

Lunch, snacks and more swimming. Pure bliss.

While we were here, Brett and I went for a walk around the rocks, as we were walking we spotted a marine parks boat heading our way! I had to ditch my shell bag and hope they didn’t pull up and talk to the kids! We made our way back to the boat, Brett had a chat with the workers while I went back to the boat to hide my shell bucket. Luckily they were just there to clean up the camp area, phew!Read more

  • High Island Beach 3

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Day 3

The kids wanted to head back to High Island, Brax had spotted a place he wanted to spear fish (now the fishing closure was over).

High Island just kept giving! Another stunning spot, more coconuts, shells, sea glass and a ripper snorkeling spot.

Brett almost caught his first cray, but unfortunately is just slipped away! Better luck next time 🤞.

Then home to plan our next boating adventure …….

  • Pretty as a Peacock

    October 20, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

On our way to Airlie, Brett spotted a poor peacock that had been hit by a car.

Brett stopped and collected the feathers, as he knows how much I like them.

  • Butterfly Bay - Hook Island

    October 21, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

First stop on the Whitsunday Adventure, was Butterfly Bay.

We woke up in Port Airlie and prepared ourselves to cross the passage, which ended up being an extremely smooth ride, phew!

Once across the passage, Brett thought it would be nice to troll the channel on our way to Butterfly Bay. After only 5 mins of trolling he was on, a massive blue fin tuna! Yes! We were all stoked.

Lachie was up next, he pulled in a Mack tuna, which we let go, not much room in the esky for 2 massive fish!

We pulled into the bay, found a mooring and were surrounding by reef! We scoffed down some breakfast so we could get our snorkel on. So many massive fish, coral and anemones I have never seen before. The reef was alive with colour.

It was such a stunning spot, we decided to stay and spend the day and night there.

Unfortunately, no butterflies as per the broucher! Which was a bummer.

  • Mantaray Bay - Hook Island

    October 22, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Next up on the itinerary was Mantaray Bay, I wanted to find George the giant Maori Wrasse, but first fishing.

Another great morning fishing, everyone caught a few fish. Brett got two ripper keepers, a tricky snapper and a nannygai. We could not wait to eat the nannygai, they are meant to be great eating.

We eventually pulled into Mantaray Bay and I instantly got good vibes, we were surrounded by bat fish. While Brett prepared the fish for lunch, the kids and I hand fed the bat fish.

We had fresh fish for lunch, everyone voted the nannygai as best eating. It was delicious.

After lunch we moved to a closer mooring and it was on! George the giant maori wrasse appeared at our boat. This was a bucket list item and it was happening. I was in the water faster than you could say George. He was amazing, huge, colorful and friendly. We spent about 2 hours feeding and swimming with George, giant GTs, bat fish, coral trout and heaps of other fish.

An epic day, which finished on an absolute high! I wanted to find George and we did! What an experience.

    October 22, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

After a beach comb I came back to the boat, the kids had gotten out, Brett and I had both been stung by something, but George was back! I couldn’t resist tying to get a photo with this big guy I had dreamt of seeing.Read more

  • Hill Inlet - Whitsundays Island

    October 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Today was the day, we headed to Hill Inlet, the pinnacle of the Whitsundays Islands.

As we drove in we could hardly contain ourselves, it was magical. The changing colours of the water as you enter the inlet were mesmerizing, I never knew there was so many different types of blues and greens.

As we entered it was low tide and we were blow away, we stayed swam and admired this amazing spot. Then the tide changed and it was coming in, we watched the iridescent blue water move towards us and then engulf the boat! It was out of this world, I didn’t think the water could get any better, but it did. Out came the camera again, it was hard to stop taking photos it was so stunning.

  • Whitehaven Beach Sunset

    October 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

After spending the most amazing day at Hill Inlet, we moved just around the corner to anchor up for the night. Hello white sand of Whitehaven beach!

Another ripper spot to camp. The kids had a ball swimming and playing in the power soft sand all evening. I think the sand looked even whiter as the sun set.Read more

  • Living like the rich and famous

    October 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

After a magical morning, we were so extremely excited about the next adventure.

We had booked a mooring at Hamilton Island🤗.

As we drove into the marina with the multimillion dollar boats we felt small, but rich.

We quickly realised you can hire golf carts to get around the island. It was our lucky day, it’s the first day in 3 months they have not booked out! Whoop whoop 🤗, so we nabbed one and started exploring. Feeling very fancy now.

We zipped here, we zipped there, we zipped everywhere! It was so fun, Lachie never wants to leave 🤣🤣.

We saw the whole island, swam in the resort pool, had a drink at the pub, checked out One Tree Hill Lookout, ate at the bakery and chilled at the marina. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday.

  • Living it up Day 2

    October 25, 2023 in Australia

    Another day in paradise.

It was so great here, we decided to stay another night.

We started the morning with bakery and then a walk to Passage Peak. The highest point on Hamilton Island.

The kids or should I say Lachlan was not happy about the walk, but he did it, it was extremely steep! But the view was well worth it. 360 degree views of Hamilton Island.

After the walk, Brett let the kids have a drive of the buggy, making their day.

We spent the day relaxing by the pool and having a few drinkies before heading to the tavern for a snitty!

In the arvo we had to duck to the shops, Brett sprung it on me that I had to drive! So I took the buggy for a spin. In this instant, I decided, this is where I am going to retire and I need a buggy. So much fun!

Island life is for me, cruisen, swimming, snorkeling, drinking, eating! What a life!

  • Last Day of our Whitsunday Adventure 😢

    October 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

All good things must come to an end, and this has been an epic week.

We spent our last day fishing, island hoping, shell collecting, swimming, exploring and some more fishing.

A few good fish caught in the morning, me proving the biggest fish for dinner 🤣

We decided to call into Whitehaven Beach for a dip and breakfast, but we all decided that Hill Inlet was better, so we headed back there. The tide was starting to run out, so we walked up and floated down in the magical blue water.

We checked out a few smaller islands for shells, it was a bit of a mission to get in because of all the reef, but Brett got me close enough that it was only a short swim in. The first island had nothing 😕, but I got some lovely ones of the second island 🤗.

It was time for more fishing! A monster mackerel hooked in the arvo (approx 1.2m), he got off just as Brax got him to the boat so no photo, not that we could keep him there is a mackerel closure on at the moment. Bugger.

We checked out Hook Island reef for a spear, but the water on this side of the island was quite murky and no one wanted to get in.

A quick look at Nara Inlet, which we weren’t that impressed with either.

We all decided that rather than an extremely early drive back across the passage in the morning, we would head back to the Port of Airlie now.

The kids brought us home safely through the passage, driving us home into the sunset 🌅.

  • Airlie Beach

    October 27, 2023 in Australia

We spent the night at Airlie beach boat ramp. We were all awake bright and early, so we walked into town for breaky by the water.

Whilst walking we spotted a sign to hire electric scooters. Lachlan was beyond excited, he has been wanting to use one of these forever!

We grabbed one each and spent the next few hours fanging around Airlie. A great way to get around and sight see.

While getting a drink at the bubbler, Brett spotted this magnificent bower bird nest hidden in a hedge. We all watched the bird collect a few items and rearrange them in his nest to make it more attractive for his mate 😍. He even picked up some of the ‘ugly’ leaves and removed them from his nest, so adorable.

Crab burger and beer for dinner! We have driven through Cardwell a few times now, and always see the crab burger and beer deal sign. This time we actually stopped, Brett rated the burger and the kids rated their Pluto pups 🤣

  • Kids night Out

    October 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Blissful, balmy night out in Cairns watching the kids play tip and climb trees instead of joining in the Halloween disco I drove them an hour away to attend 🤣

Some dinner and a walk around town, admiring all the beautifully lit up trees on the foreshore.

A nice place to spend an evening.

  • Happy Halloween

    October 31, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

A special treat for the kids, not something we would usually do. But the community spirit here is great and the local general store owner organised a big ‘trick or treat’ street walk. This year 105 kids and their parents turned up. It was a lot of fun and laughs.

    Sugar highs all round tonight!
