  • Frankfurt

    3.–7. aug. 2024, Tyskland ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

In Frankfurt am Main I stayed with my friend Finn whom I met in October 2022 at Camino Barcelona. Highlights included lunch on his patio with his girlfriend, bouldering, city walks, picnics in the park, late nights chilling with his flatmates, catching up with some old friends I hadn't seen in over 20 years for a walk and dinner , and teaching some AcroYoga.Les mer

  • Karlsruhe

    7.–14. aug. 2024, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 24 °C

I took a train down to Karlsruhe from Frankfurt where the beautiful Michelle was waiting for me at their Hauptbahnhoff (central train station).

Michelle picked me up in her super cute silver VW Club, with its rooftop down. It was a very hot week with a heat wave making Germany as hot as the hottest parts of Spain.

We stayed in the south eastern part of Karlsruhe in a nearly 300 year old Fachwerk house that had been renovated. It was so cute and Michelle had made it really lovely.

We spent a lot of time together hanging out and sightseeing. I helped empower Michelle by taking her to get her first toolbox and guide her through some home improvements.

Michelle is also gluten free! She had so many delicious gf and vegetarian spreads and snacks. It was so easy to eat together as she knew all the places to eat that were gf and how to cook gf.

  • Strasbourg

    12. august 2024, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

Michelle and I went on a riad trip to France, only an hour away from Karlsruhe, in her VW convertible. It was a fine summer's day to go to Strasbourg. We met Marcin for lunch by the Rhône river and their national dish, tarte flambée, before exploring the historic and beautiful island river city.Les mer

  • Würzburg

    14.–15. aug. 2024, Tyskland ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Travelling in Marcin's campervan from Karlsruhe to Berlin, we headed into Würzburg for our first overnight stop. I once visited this lovely city in the 2000s for work. I had a highly effective IT infrastructure team based here. It is prettier than I remembered, and all the hills surrounding the city were covered in vineyards.Les mer

  • Warsaw

    26.–31. aug. 2024, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

I took a train from Berlin to Poland. It was a comfortable 5 and a half hour journey to Warszawa Centralna. I stayed with my friend Adam in his lovely little apartment. Road works were everywhere as Warsaw continued to improve the city, but it was still a really beautiful for a place that was leveled in World War II.Les mer

  • Krakow

    2.–4. sep. 2024, Polen ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

I took a comfortable train ride to Krakow where I stayed on the edge of the Old City. It seems most of Krakow's buildings were undamaged in the war, and the city is filled with so many beautiful old buildings. A beautiful park rings the inner city, as does the Vistula river.Les mer

  • Bratislava, Slovakia

    4.–6. sep. 2024, Slovakia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

After taking trains around Germany and Poland for the last five weeks, I'm now on a bus to Slovakia. The bus will take about the same amount of time to go from Krakow to Bratislava, but I don't have the same amount of space, I'm feeling a bit of motion sickness from all the turns, and I can't use my laptop like I could on the train. Trains are definitely my preference now, and there hasn't been too much difference in price.

Bratislava is a modern oasis where old meets new. It is so different to the rest of Slovakia we drove through. The mix of Austrian and Hungarian influence on it over the centuries can be seen.

  • Zagreb, Croatia

    8.–10. sep. 2024, Kroatia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

It saddens me to say Zagreb was the most depressing city I have visited on my sojourn through Europe. The 2020 earthquake made 1,900 buildings unusable. Most of the historical city is covered in scaffolding.

Still, like every place, it has its beautiful parts, but they were harder to find this time.

  • Ljubljana, Slovenia

    10.–12. sep. 2024, Slovenia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Ljubljana is a beautiful city. I hope to come back and spend much more time here.

I caught up with Gregor over dinner. A pleasant surprise to discover he lived here. I hadn't seen him for two years, not since Sven's 50th in southern Spain.

I stayed in an awesome capsule hostel, Dragons Dream. It was very modern, clean and practical.

  • Trieste, Italy

    12.–14. sep. 2024, Italia ⋅ 🌧 20 °C

Trieste, the little Vienna of Italy.

Oh how it rained here! I had barely seen any rain this year. Heat waves through Europe and droughts in Ecuador. It felt like the skies tried to make up for it! Streets turned to rivers.

It was really beautiful though, and awesome to hear Italian again.

  • Graz, Austria

    14.–15. sep. 2024, Østerrike ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

Graz is the second largest city in Austria. It is a UNESCO City of Design, with its vibrant creative scene, innovative architecture, and forward-thinking urban planning.

Graz is known for its two historic hilltop landmarks. The iconic Schlossberg is home to the Uhrturm (Clock Tower), while Eggenberg Palace is a grand baroque castle showcasing stunning gardens and architecture that reflect the universe's harmony.

Here I had the most fun hostel experience. Our room of 5 people had some drinks, interesting philosophical debates and headed off to an '80s night together. I've only really been out for one night of dancing since I entered Europe back at the end of July. It was just what I needed. :)

  • Valderøya, Norway

    19.–23. sep. 2024, Norge ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

I flew to Ålesund to surprise some old friends for Leif's 40th birthday party. I hadn't seen them in 15 years. This part of Norway is so beautiful. Sissel was such a wonderful host and cooked some amazing food including some venison Leif had caught two weeks before on a hunting trip with his father. I also discovered a new favourite sweet, Bumse Mums, similar to our soft Easter eggs made from marshmallow covered in chocolate, except these are tastier and are shaped like mother bears.Les mer
