  • Agra Fort, Agra

    May 25, 2025 in India ⋅ ☀️ 36 °C

Impressive. Built in the 16th century by Akbar, more than 4,000 workers over eight years. The final 6 years of Shah Jahan's life were spent imprisoned in the fort where he had a view of his beloved Mumtaz Mahal, in the form of the Taj Mahal.Read more

  • Agra to Kharjaraho

    May 26, 2025 in India ⋅ 🌙 32 °C

They say India was built through the railways. Today, we got to spend 8 hours on a second-class sleeper service, an eye opener!
Facilities are basic, to say the least. Train was nearly 1km long, thousands on it. Snapping pictures presents an extraordinary glimpse of rural and poorer India. One welcome aspect was the abscence of the mountains of rubbish and the well tended farms. Fairly confronting seeing the abject poverty trackside.Read more

  • Temples of Kharjuraho

    May 27, 2025 in India ⋅ ⛅ 37 °C

Made a UNESCO World heritage sight in 1986, the 11 remaining hindi temples of Kharjuraho are impressive, very well preserved, gardens immaculate, and the compound very well looked after. Dedicated to the God's Shiva and Vishnu, the main temple can take the uninformed a little by surprise with it's very graphic Karma Sutara reliefs!

Humidity and very hot so back to the hotel for a swim in our pool.

  • KHARJURAHO, Village life

    May 28, 2025 in India ⋅ ⛅ 36 °C

Wandered through a village today. Caste system still very prevalent. Each caste lives separately. Sanitaton is basic, still using water wells. Water to house project now provides water to most homes.

Water is the number one concern, lack of sanitation a very close second. Confronting, wish we could do something to help, but there are just too many people .

  • Cochin (Kochi), South India

    May 30, 2025 in India ⋅ 🌧 27 °C

A complete contrast to northern states, green and lush, less rubbish ?! , more progressive. Loving the relaxed vibe of Cochin. The monsoon has arrived early, so it's cool and wet.
A day of churches ( a progression of Catholic/Presbyterian/Anglican), synagogues, a perfumery, Kochi Fort (Dutch), and fish market.
Having seen where the fish came from,... decided to give fish a miss for dinner!!!

  • Thekkady, Kaerela, Southern India

    May 31, 2025 in India ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

From parched desert to lush mountain tea estates, rubber plantations, pineapple and banana plantings.
Periyar district is renowned for its spices and tea plantations. Early Monsoon continues to cause flooding, slips, and obstacles to be navigated. Windy roads here meant 150 odd kms taking four hours, more scary driving on the crazy roads.
    A total contrast from Rajasthan.

  • Alleppey, Houseboat

    June 2, 2025 in India ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Cruising the lakes and back canels around Alleppy, chilled day taking in the sights of life on and around the water. Early Monsoon has led to flooding, which made the trip to getting on a boat a bit of an adventure. Great crew, comfortable houseboat. Chef whipped up a feast for lunch - unfortunately, only two are eating, so hopefully, the crew also got to eat well.Read more

  • Tea Plantations

    June 2, 2025 in India ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

    Tea, tea,...coffee!
Hillsides have been manicured over decades into neat tiered plantations as far as the eye can see. The robusta coffee planting is a little less structured, still all hand picked and manually dried and sorted. Huge production on a highly labour intensive scale.

We loved the local signage in the village, a PHD in Truth, I want one!

Popping back (500kms) to see a must see landmark( watch this space!!!!). Driving through the Wheatbelt of southern Western Australia - on route passed by dozens of loaded road trains carrying desperately needed hay supplies for South Australia. Amazing to see the support for drought striken farmers.Read more

  • Stockyard Caves,WA

    June 23, 2025 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Stockyard Gully. Used by drovers as yards and shelter for stock in the 1850's, the largest cave at 300m long is pretty impressive ( imagine the cave full of cattle!). Drive into the nature reserve was cool too, a little bit of gentle 4WD.Read more
