360 Chicago, Tilt and Route 66 sign
16 lutego, Stany Zjednoczone ⋅ 🌬 -3 °C
Today was a bit of a slow day. We were both quite exhausted, it all of a sudden hits you after about a week/week and a half into our travels each time, so we went to bed early and up late. We just lazed around for quite a while as we knew all we really wanted to do today was do 360 Chicago and the Tilt.
We were out the door about 10.30 headed for 360 Chicago. We rugged up heaps as they were saying the wind was bad outside and temps were -15. Yes it was cold but we had rugged up so much that we really didn’t feel it.
We were at 360 Chicago in about 20 mins and didn’t take long to get tickets and be up 94 floors.
We were both expecting something along the lines of One World Observatory in New York but it was a little underwhelming. We are glad we did it and got photos but we were a little disappointed.
It was time for our ‘ride’ on the tilt. We were watching other people before us and there were many people jumping back as the section started to tilt and I said to Dave ‘it must be a lot scarier than it looks’ so I was getting a bit worried.
Soon it was our time and it was not scary at all. The hardest thing was my back was really sore today so I was trying not to lean in the glass but ended up having to.
We did some souvenir shopping before heading out to The Cheesecake Factory for lunch. It is on the bottom level of 360 Chicago. We got takeaway slice of cheesecake each for dessert tonight.
On our way back to the room after lunch we stopped in at Walgreens to get something for my back. My back has always given my hassles from when I was a teenager and with all the walking and different beds we have been sleeping in, it has just given up on me today. It took all my might just to walk, each step in agony and I was worried it would just cease and I wouldn’t be able to walk for days.
Looking in the pain relief aisle and there was Tiger Balm, which always reminds me of Pop. He used to say Tiger Balm fixes everything.
Back at the unit, Dave rubbed some into my lower back and I had half hour rest in bed and it was like a miracle, the heat just eased the pain much better than the anti inflammatories I took this morning.
Dave then decides we need another walk, this time to the Route 66 sign. Back in 2017 we visited the one in Santa Monica so we had to do this one.
So off we set, Dave in charge. He said it wouldn’t be a long walk. Well we had been walking and walking and he checked maps and it was still 2.2kms away. We walked a bit more and as we were getting into the suburbs of Chicago and not the city I checked the map and we had walked straight past it 2.5kms ago!! So we turned around back in the direction of the sign. Finally found it and it was worth it.
Back in our room to do some washing before having another early night.
We walked 11.1kms. Czytaj więcej
