• Washington Monument

Even though we are an hour ahead of what we were in Chicago (and 3 hours ahead of San Francisco), both of us found it very hard to keep our eyes open last night. Both in bed early and before we knew it, it was 9.00am.

We lounged around after breakfast and watched some television before having some lunch. We then got ready and headed out for some exploring.

As the weather was warmer than Chicago (-6 compared to -20) we didn’t layer up as much as we should have, we both felt the cold a lot. Quite a few snow flurries as we were out.

We explored the Washington Monument, the World War II memorial, Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the Abraham Lincoln Statue. All extremely interesting.

One part of the World War II memorial just really makes you sit back and wonder. There is a wall of golden stars, many many stars. Each star represents 100 American lives lost in World War II. Just blows your mind!

We headed back to our hotel and came across an emergency situation at a CVS pharmacy. We counted over 10 fire trucks, 2 police cars, 2 battalion chief cars and 2 ambulances. Dave looked it up and there were reports of smoke in the ventilation system.

We then stopped off at Walgreens to get a couple of things before heading back to our room. We ordered Chipotle on Uber eats for dinner.

We walked 7.7kms today. Much more exploring to do tomorrow.
