  • Finally Arrived in Boston

    29 September 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Having spent 20 hours traveling we have finally arrived in Boston, tired and hungry but glad to finally be here.

The rep from Travelsphere was not at the airport to meet us, so after 45 mins I rang the emergency number in the UK to see what was going on. Unfortunately an accident in the tunnel to the airport had delayed him so we were told to take a taxi to the hotel and they would reimburse us.

Once at the hotel we were given a room only to find some cases already in it. After complaining we were upgraded to a larger room.

So time from a quick shower and then out on the town to find something to eat before hitting the sack.

We found an Irish bar which served food, Hazel opted for fish & chips (typical Brit) and I went for a burger.

  • Boston

    30 September 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Unfortunately our first full day started off wet, which continued on & off for the rest of the day.

Fortunately in the morning we had a guided tour by coach. Which gave details of Boston's extensive history. Boston it's self in a mixture of the old & new going from old colonial building to the modern day glass clad high rise buildings.Baca lagi

  • Harvard University - Cambridge

    30 September 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

Boston is famous for the Harvard University from which many famous people have dropped out, including the designer of Facebook, Bill Gates, Ben Afflick & Matt Damon who wrote Good Will Hunting while studying at Harvard before dropping out to make their fortune.

The tour guide gave us a walking tour of the campus in the Cambridge area of the city.

    1 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Nice to finally get some sand between our toes at Cape Cod. The weather was bright and warm so a lovely day to visit.

It is called Cape Cod as the water is very shallow and it is said that at one time their was so many cod in the sea you could walk on top of them.Baca lagi

  • The witches of Salem

    2 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Salem is famous for the witches trials in 1692, where 200 were accused of practicing witchcraft—the Devil's magic—and 20 were hung. Eventually, the colony admitted the trials were a mistake and compensated the families of those convicted.

Today from Oct to November Salem is turned into a town dedicated to Halloween. All the shops are dressed with skeletons, witches etc.. and the locals take the opportunity to make some money by putting on candlelit ghost walks.

  • Rockport

    2 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

The last stop before continuing to our overnight stay at Portsmouth was the lovely little port of Rockport.

We had fish & ships (to go) at the end of the pier looking out across the ocean!, which has become a tradition when we go to the seaside.Baca lagi

  • Meredith

    3 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

On our way further north we dropped into Meredith a small town the on the edge of Lake Winnipesaukee. The day started a bit gray but brightened up the further north we went.

One thing we have noticed is that everywhere is very clean, no litter anywhere to be seen. As you can see in one of the photos even the geese are discouraged from fouling the grass.Baca lagi

  • North Conway

    3 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Our stop for the night is at the Red Jacket Resort in North Conway, as you can see as usual we had our own private swimming pool and jacuzzi 🏊.

The swimming pools in the US are unusual in that there are no changing rooms near the pool, meaning that either you have to change in your room and walk through the hotel in your swimming costume (which in this case also meant walking through the dinning room while people were eating) or you change in the nearest toilet. It wouldn't be to bad if they provided robes but they don't. Very strange, it seems to be how things are done over here as it was the same in our previous hotel.

Also the pool towels provided are very small so don't really cover anything up 😗

  • The Mount Washington Hotel

    4 Oktober 2017, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 11 °C

We stopped on the way to see one of America's most luxurious hotels.

In 1944, The Mount Washington hosted the Bretton Woods International Monetary Conference. Delegates from 44 nations convened (including Winston Churchill), establishing the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, setting the gold standard at $35 an ounce and designating the United States dollar as the backbone of international exchange. The signing of the formal documents took place in the Gold Room, located off the Hotel Lobby and now preserved as an historic siteBaca lagi

  • Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal

    5 Oktober 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

As part of a tour of the city we visited the Notre-Dame Basilica. The ornate decoration all carved in wood is stunning.

Built in the Gothic Revival style, the church is highly decorated. The vaults are coloured deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. Unusual for a church, the stained glass windows along the walls of the sanctuary do not depict biblicalscenes, but rather scenes from the religious history of Montreal. It also has a Casavant Frères pipe organ, dated 1891, which comprises four keyboards, 92 stops using electropneumatic action and an adjustable combination system, 7000 individual pipes and a pedal board.Baca lagi

  • Canada here we come

    5 Oktober 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Today we crossed over the border to Canada on our way to Montreal. As with most cities it is very busy but has a charm of its own.

Montréal (sometimes also called Ville-Marie) was founded in 1642 as a missionary colony under the direction of Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve and Jeanne Mance, but the fur trade soon became its main activity.

Montreal is the second-largest primarily French-speaking city in the world, after Paris. Historically the commercial capital of Canada, it was surpassed in population and economic strength by Toronto in the 1970s.

Montreal is the second largest city in Canada, the largest in the province and the 9th largest city in North America with an estimated population of 1.75 millionin 2016. Montreal's population growth has been slow, and its 2014 population of 1.75 million is little changed from the 2011 census figure of 1.65 million.

  • Quebec City

    6 Oktober 2017, Kanada ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Today we visited Québec city or as our guide informed us it should be pronounced 'Kuébec'. A lovely city which is sited on two levels where the old city is linked to the new via a funicula railway.

Québec City sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada's mostly French-speaking Québec province. Dating to 1608, it has a fortified colonial core, Vieux-Québec and Place Royale, with stone buildings and narrow streets. This area is the site of the towering Château Frontenac Hotel and imposing Citadelle of Québec. The Petit Champlain district’s cobblestone streets are lined with bistros and boutiques.
