we weren't sure if we should go or not as it had been quite smokey in Vancouer the night before, but the forecast looked better and it wasn't quite so bad so we headed off........not to bad on the way there but Merritt was worse.

Osprey were in their nest at the entrance, and they just flew in as we arrived.

Camping food doesn't have to be boring.......pasta salmon. think I made it in one pot. to be fair it was leftover bbq'd salmon from earlier in the week, but it was easy and yummy and very colourful!

Sun set on thursday night before the smoke was too bad. We got some great stargazing in that night. The skys are very clear in Merritt and area.Read more

We were able to go for a dip in the lake on Friday. I even got out the old air mattress and doggy did attempt to get on it. He didn't do to bad considering he is not the greatest fan of the water!

Colin had just commented on how nice the day had been, not a lot of smoke and literally 15 minutes later the smoke came and didn't really leave.Read more

The smoke lowered the temperature enough we had to put on our fleece jackets in the morning. It was like a fall day. We were at 3,000 ft elevation so it would be cooler when the sun wasn't out, but surprising when we had been so hot the day before we had to dip in the lake to cool down!
Because it was cooler we were able to do a walk in the commonage. The cows had been in the campground the day before, but we saw them round them up and move them to another pasture on Friday. Very noisy on Friday morning with all the mooing, but by Friday night and Saturday morning no mooing!

We used the GPS and sort of found the circular path that we hadn't found a month before, but we still got off the trail and ended up wandering along one of the cow trails.Read more

some sort of scat. Not sure from who. Lots of berry seeds in it. The saskatoons were pretty well finished this trip. Most of them were dry and consequently not as many cedar waxwings in the shrubs. But something had finished them as we saw lots and lots of this scat all over the place.Read more

not quite so much bird activity at the edges of the lake and we didn't see the beaver this trip.

With the smoke you couldn't even see the other end of the lake at some times.

On our last night we heard the nighthawks calling at night on our trips to the outhouse. They sounded like the were in the grassy area, and they did move about as the calls changed the direction they came from. we didn't actually see them only heard them.Read more
