  • OMG We are on the plane.

    August 1, 2025 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

What an ordeal. Arrive at airport check in, they have no information about pats wheelchair or battery. Then proceed to tell us they have no hoist to lift pat into the seat, and have no staff that will assist, so myself and Barb will have to carry him in.
More waiting, then after physically checking his wheelchair batteries tell us they are to higher voltage and not aloud on the plane at all !!
    Devastation!!
After complete disbelief and our hearts sinking into our stomachs, another guy doubled checked em and realised they are not lithium and are fine to travel.
All info was all pre sent way prior to booking the flights but insisted they had nothing.
    Thanks emirates.
More waiting as they served pretty much every other passenger while we waited for our boarding passes.
Finally got them to be sent through customs to find the lift at the end is not working so backtracked and up several ramps to the gates level where the bars are located but of course are all closed!!!
Finally time to board where Barb and I lift Pat into the isle chair then again into the plane seat.
Lucky Pat brought his own emergency harness lift for us to use as emirites had nothing.
But alas we are about to take off.
    Hoo bloody. Ray.

  • Arrived dubai

    August 1, 2025 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ 🌬 41 °C

We have arrived in Dubai airport. The staff here were way more helpful than Brisbane. Now to get a ride to our hilton. Pool side cocktails coming up. A nice 46 degrees out.

  • Dubai hilton.

    Aug 1–5, 2025 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ ☁️ 49 °C

Checking into the hilton. Chill time after a epic flight.

  • The palm

    August 3, 2025 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ ☀️ 46 °C

One of the biggest man made islands at the time. About 300 million tonnes of rock went in to make it. $100 million for a plot.

  • Worlds tallest building. (For now)

    August 3, 2025 in the United Arab Emirates ⋅ ☀️ 40 °C

Seeing this mega structure and the enormous expansion of dubai from this height was both impressive and also saddening for the amount spent and resources destroyed to create it. The money in this place makes it hard to think that anyone in the world cant afford to eat or live in poverty.Read more

  • Lyon stop over

    Aug 5–6, 2025 in France ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

    Flight from Dubai to lyon.
More fun and waiting at the airport with minimal info exchanged by emirates. Should be called irate's
The airport staff were at least more helpful and took us through the airport unlike bris. Lyon was very grungy city vibe. Quick car upgrade as was too small. The car company were awesome. So on the up n up.
    And the customary french Croissant

  • Surprise extra country added

    August 6, 2025 in Andorra ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

So after leaving lyon we were on a mission to Barcelona. I decided to take the longer route through the Pyrenees mountains and amazing drive with breathtaking scenery, but not many petrol stations. As we were in the thick of it around sunset, 9pm, any petrol stations passed were closed. So we found one on the map. Followed it there and it was in Andorra. The tiny country on top of the mountains. Insane and no tax. Country no. 3.Read more

  • Nice could be nicer.

    August 10, 2025 in France ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Arrived in Nice after a long 7 plus hour drive from Barcelona. We stopped in to Pats good family friends in a beautiful part of France near Marseille. ( after a 1.5 hour detour in the wrong direction due to a map issue)
Beautiful scenery and vineyards all around.
They gave us a beautiful dinner and great hospitality.
It was s pleasure to meet John-Michelle and Collette.
    Another 2 hours to Nice.
No parking anywhere near the hotel not even disabled options. So dropped off the guys and luggage then spent an hour driving around town looking to find a park. Finally found one 20 min walk away.
Amidst messages from the guys where we discovered we have left the hoist battery back in Barcelona.
So im off to the airport to fly back to Barcelona then return to Nice!!
    Ah adventure awaits again.

  • Flowing through florence.

    August 12, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 34 °C

Enjoying the amazing architecture. The public transport has been good for accessibility, but hard time finding a wheelchair taxi. The cobblestone streets add s bit of vibration to the trip too.

  • Rome in a day

    August 13, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 37 °C

Caught the bullet train to Rome. A toasty 46 degree day what better than a city with black cobblestone and stone walls everywhere to reflect the heat. We were told we wouldn't get in the coliseum but we did. More amazing landmarks and architecture. Even found a wheelchair cab to get us around easily.Read more

    August 14, 2025 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

A good stop in Milan some fashion shopping and Italian pizza. Also great architecture. Some of the cobbled streets here were quite rough to get around.

  • The red train.

    August 15, 2025 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

OMG. I don't expect you could ever get a more beautiful train journey. Absolutely stunning. Highest train station in the world. At almost 3000 meters. Above the tree line. Finished in St Moritz for a delicious lunch with more amazing views. Train fully accessible sections. No need to call ahead or book any chair access.Read more

  • Venice is sinking

    August 16, 2025 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Well not the most accessible option but we still managed to get a ferry tour through Venice. Limited parking for accessible cars so parked in a normal spot usually paid but free for us. And yes it's apparently sinking and looks like they want to charge everyone just to go there. Hasn't started yet.Read more

  • Slovenia. Country 7

    August 17, 2025 in Slovenia ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

Stayed in Koper. Very surprised how well this place is made for wheelchairs. Most of the roads have no gutters at all. Super smooth. The hotel accessible room is amazing. We only chose here as could not find a single accessible room in the north of Croatia. Cheap food and drinks and very pretty. Hidden gem for accessible travelers.Read more
