I’ll be working on making the garage interior a working space, but the house is complete and I am loving it! So proud of Brice’s construction skills. I couldn’t be happier with my little house.

  • Lots of Progress and Move In Day

    April 22, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 39 °F

Brice has been working so hard to get all the finishing touches complete. I moved in 3 days ago since my bed was set up and each day it feels more and more settled and like a home.

This week has been the finishing of the install of the mini-split. That was a big job involving inside and outside components with a cord and hose passing all the way through the house. It's up and running and just needs a few cosmetic touches and paint to hide the hoses. It will provide heating and cooling.

Brice has been having the Midas touch in appliance installation. Everything has worked on the first test run, which has me wholly impressed. We have left touch up paint, kitchen decorative shelves on each side of the microwave.

I unboxed the couches yesterday. It feels like watching a Chia Pet growing. They went from rolled up in a box with compression to expanding over many hours into an actual couch. It is supposed to take a few days to fully expand and it's still growing.....

I'll move onto painting the garage and setting up my "spa/gym" out there for the next few months. Right now it is a mess because it’s been the catch all spot for construction.

  • Tile, tile and more tile

    April 6, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 50 °F

So many days of tiling. I got to put up some white subway tile, which gradually went out of level and had to be torn out, Brice took over that job and I took over the pebble trim around the outside of the front door entry. Brice finished the green tile in the bathroom yesterday and started with the kitchen back splash. A bit more tiling in the kitchen then we’ll grout everything. I can’t wait to move onto clean up and appliance install. The light of at the end of the remodeling tunnel is in sight.Read more

  • Wet Sanding Countertops

    April 5, 2025 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 28 °F

Brice sands the countertop to smooth using a heavy disc and water. A Spring snow on April 4th makes everything white for a day. Brice reused an antique outdoor sconce that was on the house to put into the bedroom above where the headboard will be. Tiling in the bathroom makes big progress.Read more

  • Drywall Taping and Mudding

    February 23, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 39 °F

These progress photos don't really show how much work went into putting drywall, tape and mud in all the tight spaces and all the unusual angles. Brice had to have cussed this ceiling often when he had to mud over his head. I just love the look that he has accomplished by sticking with it and toughing it out. The space feels so big even though it is a small footprint.Read more

  • Wood Ceiling Accents

    January 31, 2025 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 37 °F

The fir wood treatment doesn't cover 100% of the ceiling and serves as an accent to the drywall..

I'll say it again - I love the vaulted ceilings. It was such a big IF to do them, but the risk really paid off. Thank you Brice for being on board to give it a try. What could have happened? Worse case scenario the outer walls caved in before we got supports in place. I am sure it kept Brice awake at night. He cautiously put cables and turnbuckles holding it sucked in while putting in beams. The house wouldn't be nearly as interesting if the ceilings hadn't been vaulted. It takes it from plain and ordinary to something interesting.Read more

  • Wrapping the crawlspace

    April 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

This heavy plastic sheeting with reinforced nylon webbing inside the plastic makes a strong vapor, dust and moisture barrier and less dusty area to complete the rest of the plumbing, electrical and natural gas installation.

The vapor barrier helps control moisture levels in the crawl space, preventing dampness from affecting your home's foundation and structure. Mold Prevention: By limiting moisture, a vapor barrier reduces the likelihood of mold growth. It also allows the crawl space to be more pleasant to get into should the need for plumbing repairs arise. It can make the space better storage for unused seasonal items.

  • The Crawl Space - Underbelly

    February 10, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 41 °F

This is the rough and unglamorous part of a remodel. The dirt crawl space and the shoring and leveling of an old crooked house isn’t where the ooos and aaahs are at, but it a vital part for going forward. Leveled floors and walls make everything else go in easier. We’ve also had weeks we’ve been unable to make progress because it’s just to cold to work, even inside. With the insulation removed it’s nothing more than a breezy shell. Brice bundles up and does his best to make progress.Read more
