Ascensor da Gloria - Funicular

The Glória Funicular (Ascensor da Glória), sometimes known as the Elevador da Glória (Glória Lift), is a funicular railway line in Santo Antóniol. It connects the Pombaline downtown (Restauradores Square) with the Bairro Alto (Garden/ Overlook of São Pedro de Alcântara).

It should be noted that this was designed by Raoul Mesnier in 1882, who also created the Elevador de Sant Justa, in 1901

Although described as a funicular, it does not truly qualify as the traction is provided by electric motors, the cable merely links the two cars together so that they ascend and descend simultaneously.Read more
