    Day 8 North shore

    January 18, 2020 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

    Kahili beach
Kiluea light house and wildlife reserve (birds!)
    Spam musubi (snack)
    Chicken in a barrel (lunch)
    Hanalei beach park
    Anini beach -- snorkeling
    Hamura saimin (dinner)

Jeff enjoyed his time at the beaches as he got to fly his drone. Kiluea wildlife reserve was amazing too with lots of local birds. There were a lot of Hawaiian geese (apparently endangered) walking around, and from afar we can see a whole mountain of white birds dotting the trees like Christmas ornaments (I think they're the red footed boobies).

Turns out Kauai is kind of wooky and has these little fruits stands along the road that uses the honor system. Pretty cute

Shaka guide recommended that we try spam musubi, a local delicacy. Turns out I love it! The saltiness of spam balances perfectly with the rice. Shall be making some at home.... For lunch we tried chicken in a barrel, where they smoke chicken in a barrel for bbq. It was pretty good but I wasn't blown away.

Then I went on a quest to find a place to snorkel. To my disappointment, hanalei Bay's tides are too high in the winter. We finally went to anini beach which was perfect and I got to see some fish.

After all the hype hamura saimin was just ok so I don't even have a picture for it.
