The weather is all over the place so we burned some energy (and refuelled with Slushies🤣) at Bounce this morning! It was busy but they tried lots of things and scampered and bounced around!

Wow, this place is stunning! What a glorious little gem just out of Perth. Thanks kids for being busting for the loo.

  • Wave Rock

    October 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Wave Rock was one of the few places we researched in advance and were really excited to visit! We didn’t make it on the way over due to the music festival and long weekend so we extended our day slightly to see it on the way home.

However, as is so often the case, reality does not mirror expectation especially when the expectation is specific and high!
From the moment we arrived and five metres into the little paved path I looked into the wildflowers and saw a little snake slithering away, things did not go as planned.

The wave rock itself was better than anticipated! It’s stunning! Totally worth a visit, hard granite shaped gorgeously as a silken and striped wave. But the stifling heat, the sandflies and the latent exhaustion made it hard to appreciate as it deserved.

Like we have observed in life…
you can’t force the magic. Life is easier and better when you go in the direction God points you and let the sweet moments pop up as they may.

  • Weaving through the wheat belt…

    October 8, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

So…. The primary road from Wave Rock to Norseman is closed for upgrades. And we managed to miss the turn (totally unsignposted that we could see) to the detour. So we followed a tiny sign to Holt Rock that took us deep into the unsealed back roads of massive agricultural spaces, (roadsides all glorious with wildflowers though, many that I haven’t seen nor photographed yet). But at the next unsignposted junction we decided we couldn’t go further into the unknown without risking camping on the roadside tonight! lol!

So we turned around only to be met by a helpful lady who offered to lead us through the back roads via a sure and shorter way to meet up with the detour. Once again the Lord is so kind to us.

9hrs of driving makes for a big day. We are grateful not to have to add doubling back for 2.5hrs to it! 🚗 🛣️ 🌱

    👀😳😱😵‍💫💀💩👎🏻🚐
For hours on a back road to Norseman. It’s been an epic day and we have faced a multitude of terrains and landscapes.
Anyway….after more than 12hrs of travel we should arrive in Norseman. Last 30mins now and the kids have been brilliant travellers.Read more

  • Norseman - sitting our botties down

    Oct 8–9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

Taking nanny’s instructions to heart, taking a moment to sit before bed even tho it was a massive day. This is better than tenting set up (although our tent is less creepy than these digs)

  • Lunch with the flies

    October 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

We had lunch with the flies at BallaGNOMEia.
Little flies, March flies, a couple of crash downs from unsteady legs and then we retreated from the flies and got back in the road.

Interesting fact…this is a Gnome monument (for some sort of stolen Gnomes event) and we have also passed a dog cemetery and a rabbit cemetery on this return journey. Hehe. Humans are quirky.Read more

  • Turn right in 707kms

    October 9, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

We mixed up the long straight with musical chairs. Jeff and Merry watched the Clone wars together and Nelly listened to a Veggie Tales song on repeat!

I finished a Richard Osman book in the back back and then did a driving stint and got the hang of waving to other drivers on the Nullabor. Noa napped and read in the back back and before we knew we arrived in Eucla.Read more

  • Eucla x2

    Oct 9–10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 14 °C

Upgraded Eucla to a cabin and had an easy dinner of chicken salad and noodles.

5 beds in a little room was a great opportunity for a game of islands and Merry burnt some energy bouncing from island to island. Each kid had energy to burn and word count to get through after a quiet afternoon in technology which was necessary after a long and late day travelling yesterday. They were tired and we had finished our audio book The Enchanted Wood, narrated by Kate Winslet.Read more

  • Border Village in the daytime

    October 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

We visited Border Village in the full dark on the way across so it was good to see the Big Kangaroo in the daylight on the way back. Nelly got her Polaroid picture and we were stoked to find not one but two hat pins at the roadhouse!!Read more

  • Bight without cliff edge

    October 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

It was interesting to see that the Bight is not all sharp cliff edge. Here it rolled down to the sea with a rocky bushy edge and had a more familiar to us wave coastline with reef further out.

  • Nullabor Roadhouse

    October 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Kitty cat cuddles, glimpses of the ocean, a free payphone call to Poppy and Nanny Thorpe to say hello and a collection of hat pins to remember the journey!

  • The Head of the Bight - more whales

    October 10, 2024 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

    🐋
Quick stop to see the head of the Bight and we were giddy with delight to see 4 more whales. Two mothers and two calves again just chilling in the bay. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!

If there wasn’t a biting wind and 6hrs of driving left for today we would have stayed for hours.

I wonder if these were the same mumma’s from Fowlers Bay? ❤️🐋
