    Mum hadn’t left the apartment in 4 days. She’d been sitting on the lounge watching Greek Chaser, Wheel of fortune (“Give me an alpha please Larry”) and occasionally made it out to the balcony for cheese and olives and a game of backgammon.

    The night before we were due to leave for Egypt we decided to have a practice run at walking with crutches to the restaurant literally below our apartment. It didn’t bode well. There were tears, wobbles.

    The next day we warily travelled to the airport at Athens. A super friendly airport staff member put mum in a wheelchair and we got VIP treatment through the airport and customs. (With stops to drop off the drone and get US Dollars and Egyptian pounds because Egypt has two currencies). Mum got put in a lift truck up to the plane to avoid all the stairs and India was pretty chuffed to go along for the ride as the designated assistant. We got extra seats on the plane (sorted by Dale). We got a slightly dodgier lift down from the plane on Cairo and zipped through all the many security checks by our Egyptian airport helper.
