• Moving from Florence to Lucca

    14. Mai in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

So check out of the Florence hotel and paying the huge tourist tax onto the Florence railway station which was busy but after activating the interrailing pass it worked well and bought a sandwich then boarded the train for the 1 hour 20min train ride to Lucca. We were met at train station by our hosts and took back to the new apartment which is just fabulous. A wander around the near vicinity to get some basic food. Told that the water is drinkable, but the best water is from the public fountains as it is mountain stream water and always best to drink it. Found the water fountain and also the card activated bins which are great too.

Then after a short rest and a cuppa tea it was time to do a few more steps to find the city walls, a little art gallery and then a more serious wander around Lucca., which is lovely and much much quieter than Firenze. Folks are warm and very friendly here too. We visited another chapel and then found the old amphitheatre, before along back to apartment via a cafe and a local wine.

Takeaway pizza for tea which was fine but very large!!

Chill in the apartment tonight before an attempt to a walk the 4.4km around the city walls.
