  • Day 2 war museum

    May 11 in Poland ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

Went to ww2 museum great building but I was feeling to great so had to cut trip short. On walk back to apartment went to a traditional polish milk bar… which doesn’t sell
Milk but a self service soviet style canteen for basic polish food.Read more

  • Gdansk day 3 shopping

    May 13 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Well, a leisurely stroll through old Gdansk town today, looking for Pączki (pronounced poonch-kee) which are Polish donuts typically flavoured with rose. I’d practiced my whole conversation in Polish for my encounter at the traditional polish bakers in the shopping mall and it all went very well which much smiles at the encounter..,., but with 2 fresh Paczki in the bag I was happy.
The forum shopping mall was massive and has a canal running through the middle of it so it feels a little bit outdoorsy.
Anyway another milk bar type polish lunch with Kompet which is a cheap stewed fruit cold drink made from plum, cloudberry and angerberry which Jacqueline is really liking.
Pork Schnitzel, cabbage, beetroot and placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes) which was
Cheap and good. In this style of milk bar they simply weigh your plate at the end of the self service and you pay for what you heaped on your plate!!! Also had sour rye soup too, not as good as other soups I’ve had, but still decent.
Afternoon at hotel spa Which was nice to chill with Mrs G. Oh yeah and she found a bookstore!!!’
Evening was a beer on the river at a food hall
And some pizza and a wee walk home.
    Nice chilled day

  • Gdansk day 4 - the seaside

    May 14 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Well I got a discount for using bolt at the airport and this mornings taxi fare from the hotel in central gdansk to Sopot on the Baltic coast cost Jacqueline and I the princely sum of 85p for a 30 min drive…. And that includes the 8% tax the government put on too. In the uk we are clearly being ripped off at every turn. For example the train journey back cost us in total for both of us was £3.28 years old incredible value for money.
Anyway sopot…. On the Baltic Sea, no we didn’t go in. Walked sling Europes longest pier, saw the bear statue..,, the actual bear stays in Edinburgh zoo. Had a lovely coffee and cake and the weather was nice too pizza vending machines …. The future is now

  • Gdansk Day 5 solidarity

    May 15 in Poland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Great day at the solidarity museum at the shipyards and at solidarity square. 2.5 hours of audio tour but it was fascinating and brought back lots of childhood history of watching it on tv.
Trip on polish team to get there and back for £2 public transport is so much better and cheaper here. Run for the public and not for someone to make money.Read more
