    Day 1: to the ferry

    October 29, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

As Neil pushed his first pedal- disaster. Bottom bracket is broken! How far will we get on this trip?
Overnight ferry to Busan with a beautiful sunset but no restaurant. Our EMart dinner was a winner!

  • Day 2: Busan- Jeonggwan

    October 30, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Arrived at 7am and went straight for breakfast- a feast! Then visited 3 bike shops trying to get Neil’s bike fixed- no luck but all tried so hard to be helpful. The plan now is take it easy and see how far we get.
Afternoon stop at CU- Neil finally persuaded them to sell the gimbap even though it was 28mins out of date!

  • Day 3: Jeonggwan- Gyeongju

    October 31, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

We made it! The planned hilly 70k turned into a flat 90k. I finally match Neil on the uphills! More riverside bike paths which Korea does so well, a little crazy main road riding (no thank you Naver) and lots of wiggling through fields and tracks.Read more

  • Day 4: Gyeongju

    November 1, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Famous for being the museum without walls. Silla history is everywhere, nestled beautifully amongst the modern city buildings, well maintained and peaceful. Most beautifully presented Shabu shabu dinner I’ve ever seen.Read more

  • Day 5: going solo

    November 2, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Neil’s bike finally gave up at 50k so I did the last 50k solo. I really enjoyed the challenge of navigating through the mass of road works and new road systems not on the map and making a river (more like a stream) crossing. Thankfully finished with an easy 10k+ riverside bike path into Busan. Neil’s challenge: finding a taxi to Busan and fitting his bike in itRead more

  • Day 6: Busan

    November 3, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

A relaxing day; a stroll along the beach to the Korean baths at Spaland, coffee stops and reading rounded off with a Samgyetang dinner and cocktails.

  • Day 7: Busan ferry

    November 4, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

A lazy walk along the beach to get rice wrapped ice cream and a reading session in the sun before we started the long walk (23k) to the ferry. I practiced my bike handling skills by pushing Neil along the wider bike paths. And got too confident, resulting in us both on the floor, bleeding. No damage to us but it was the last straw for Neil’s bike. We limped into the ferry port, tired and hungry.Read more

  • Final day

    November 5, 2022 in South Korea ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

    And home.
Another smooth ferry crossing- this time we were prepared with a picnic dinner! A taxi took Neil to Sam, who fixed his bike in perfect timing for us to meet up and finish the ride together.
