• Source of the Thames

    1 maj 2022, England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

On, then, to the Thames itself. On leaving the road up a little path, as directed by that map at the Thames Head, we found that literally, our first act had to be to climb a stile – the first of a fair few today, most of which were before the beginning of our walk proper. We tried to look elegant climbing with our big bags. We probably failed.

The source of the Thames was about a mile away. First, we had to cross a live railway line. Which was nice.

Having evaded death, the walk to the source was simple enough as this was clearly a path many people had been along in the past. The actual source was little more than a few rocks and a stone marking it. That was enough and pretty much what we’d expected with there having been little rain lately. Although of course it was raining very gently for much of today but that didn’t dampen our enthusiasm.
