    Hello Canada!

    After 6 great months in Europe I am back out in the world and it’s finally Canada. A country I been dreaming about for many years. Now is the time to see if it’s really so beautiful up here like everybody thinks or says it is.

    Traveling from Berlin to Vancouver was ok I would say, took me nearly a day.
    When I arrived in the hostel I met two German solo travels on the reception. Both of them came with the same flight as I did.
    Since that moment we been spending the most time together. We did a lot of sightseeing, organized stuff and had beers.
    Vancouver is a nice city all around I would say but it’s also really full with homeless people. I never saw something like that before. It’s ridiculous how many drug addict homeless people are on the streets. They smoke crack here on the street like it’s a cigarette or cannabis (it’s legal here).

    Me and the boys made a plan that we will go to Vancouver island together.
    There we will have a bank appointment in the next days.
    Jojo will stay one more day in Vancouver while me and Tom already go to Viktoria.    Meer informatie

    Viktoria

    Quick one day stop in Viktoria (named after the queen) before we leave tomorrow to Nanaimo where we meet up with jojo again.

    We been not doing much in the city, just walked around and met some people in the hostel. I really like the architecture in Viktoria. Not much to say, just that I am ready for some nature now.

    Off to Nanaimo.

    First daytrip from Nanaimo

    We arrived in Nanaimo, had a big night out and slept quite a while in on the next day. The day was already half over so we been just around in Nanaimo.
    The next day we went to a car rental place, booked a car for 3 days and now I will talk about the first day trip!

    The day was absolutely amazing! Our first stop was a little trail in the woods, I never saw big trees like this in my life. After walking and driving around for a while we went to Port Alberni where we grabbed something to eat. Done eating and filled with energy we made our way to a river where the possible was high to see black bears! And that is what happened, first time seeing a bear in the nature in my life. What a moment, he was catching fish on the other side of the river. What a start for the road trip days!

    On our way back to Nanaimo (our base) we did another little hike to a waterfall. Not the best waterfall but we had a fun time while trail running there.

    Back in the hostel. Time to chill, recover and get ready for the next day.

    Road-trip days 2-3

    Didn’t had many photos from day 2 so I took 2 and 3 together.
    Just had my bank appointment in the morning, means I am done with all the important things and can go for a job one day.

    Day two was a long fight through the forest, the road was really bad, we had no signal and been in the middle of nowhere but that is also part of Canadas nature we want to see. The good thing is we saw some Elk females. Really big the animals here. Feels like everything here is bigger then back home.

    Day three was a really good roadtrip day again. We went to Tofino and Ucluelet on the other side of Vancouver island.

    Nature was great like always I think I don’t have to say that anymore.
    Canadian people are really really friendly btw. That is what I felt from the first moment I came here.    Meer informatie

    Strathcona park

    After spending one more day without a car in Nanaimo, we rented a car again and went to Campbell river where we stay for some nights.
    In Nanaimo was not much going on the last day. I just went for a coffee with a girl I met and that’s pretty much it.

    One of us got a bit sick so it’s was not much happening in Campbell river the first day.

    The next day! It took us out in the nature again for more waterfalls, more rivers, trees, caves and mountains. We went deep into the Strathcona Park. After seeing the second waterfall in two days and more that I can count since I am in Canada we found some caves for some short climbing action.    Meer informatie

    Days in and around Nanaimo

    8–13 okt. 2024, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

    There is no better place to waiting for a credit card then Nanaimo! Not that we had much choice but I really liked that place so we went back down, gave away our car and did some trips around Nanaimo. One day we been to Ladysmith where Pamela Anderson lives, really nice town, sadly we didn’t get to chance to see her. Jojo is a big fan.
    Another day we went hiking on Mount Benson, really good view up there and he hike was also not too hard.

    After everybody of us picked up his credit card from the bank we needed a new plan for our travels and it was time to slip up after 2 1/2 weeks of traveling together. Sure we had some goodbye drinks in our favorite pub. (Old city Station pub)
    Was great traveling with the boys and I am sure I will see them again somewhere else but for now we have different plans.

    I am on my back to Victoria where I will meet with Bobby and I also want to see more of the city before I leave the island again.    Meer informatie

    Squamish

    Two days Victoria, meet up with Bobby and nearly one travel day, not much to say or show about that time. So I skip that.

    Back on the mainland ! After being for like 2 weeks on Vancouver island I made it back to the mainland and the first stop is Squamish, on my way to Whistler.

    Arrived quite late so had just one full day there, that day Bobby and I went for an hike. Absolutely stunning!

    Whistler

    The famous Whistler!
    It’s offseason at the moment but still a lot going on. The weather was not really the best. 3 of 6 days just rain and really cold but we used the good weather days for some exploring and hikes. Bobby will stay here and try to find an apartment, I am sure I will come back one day for some skiing. It’s a really nice town and the winter season has to be crazy. But for the moment I keep traveling. I have two Buses booked to my next destination, Banff!
    I will spend the next 16 hours in a bus now but that’s also part of traveling these massive countries.
    The weather there is hopefully good and I can do some nice hikes and explore more nature.

    What a stunning place! Probably one of the most beautiful places in the mountains I ever saw. I do understand now why everyone is saying “go to Banff!”

    Finally saw some snow again, I can’t remember the last time I saw snow.
    I met many nice people from the first day to the last. That’s why I love hostels so much, you never stop meeting new nice people.

    Everyday was hiking day, I can feel it in my legs but I can’t stop now I have to use the time I spend in the mountains before I am gone.
    On my way to lake Louise for some more hikes before I will leave the mountains behind me in some days but more about that in a bit.    Meer informatie

    Lake Louise

    Quick two trip to Lake Louise.
    So much snow here is such a big plus, my last walk in a winter wonderland is a while ago, it’s cold yes but I missed it after traveling all these hot countries.

    Canada is absolutely beautiful, I don’t even know what to say. All the places I been to so far all beautiful.

    Two more days of hiking in my legs, but now my time in the mountains is over for the moment. Next stop is Calgary for two nights and then I meet up with a friend from Australia.
    Time to chill now a little bit, my body will appreciate the time off.    Meer informatie

    2 cities and one big town (I guess)
    Not much to talk about. The cities here are quite boring and cold.
    Met up with a friend from Australia and stayed with him in Red Deer for some nights.
    Sunday we been to a UFC fight night with some of his friends. Every other day we went to the gym, played squash, played pool in his basement or watched sport.
    Good to have friends around the world, backpacking makes it possible!!

    On my way back to the mountains. Time to pick up a car and go on road-trip with Jojo and Tom Tom .    Meer informatie

    Back with the boys

    Back with the boys! Back on the road!

    Quick to Calgary to pick up the car and then straight to Banff where the boys been waiting for me.
    First day was a lot of driving to Revelstoke. Next morning jojo and I had a interview for a job there.
    The interview was good so we will see if we get the job or not. They will let us now in like 2 weeks.

    On the way back to Calgary we stayed in Golden, Lake Louise and Canmore.
    Tomorrow we bring back the car and also Jojo to the airport because he flies home. Hopefully he is back soon!
    The roadtrip was absolutely great, we had a great time, did some good hikes, had some nights out and been always surrounded by beautiful nature. Canadian Rockies mountains are just stunning.

    After bringing the car back and jojo to the Airport, Tom and I went to a Calgary flames games.
    Going to an ice hockey game was on the bucket list for for sure, it’s the national sport here so a must do.

    Calgary won the game 3:1 vs LA.
    Tbh. I expect for from the energy in the stadium. It was the most times so quit, there was nearly no singing or chanting just when they scored. It was still a nice thing to do and I like my new Calgary Flames jersey.    Meer informatie

    Some days later..

    We left Calgary after some days, went for one night to Canmore, Lake Louise and then up north to Jasper national Park. Yesterday was the weather not really good but TODAY ABSOLUTELY STUNING!

    Short drive from Jasper to Lake Malinge.
    After a hike and chilling in the sun by the lake we went back to the car. Like 2 min later we saw two moose. FINNALY!

    First time seeing a moose in my life.
    What a happy day, after a while we saw another moose standing on the street (first photo). I think he was a paid actor!    Meer informatie

    End of the beginning.

    Oh Canada my tall cold friend!

    It’s time for me to leave now but that will not be a farewell, it’s a see you later. Not everything worked out like I wanted it but I still had an amazing time. I saw bears, a moose, the most beautiful nature (maybe ever), I met great people and got reunited with old friends.

    It’s not the last time I been here but for now is the Canadian winter season over for me. I still never been standing on a snowboard, I also been not to the NBA, But I did many things I didn’t planned before. On my first day I met two boys I was with for the most of the time, now all three of us go different ways again. It’s sad but that is backpacking as well.
    Our group trip is over and we are spread over the world but the connection we have will stay. See the boys again one day, maybe in warmer days.

    I am sad to leave and also happy for the time in front of me.
    It’s all part of the one big Journey we are all on - life!

    Açores - São Miguel

    From Canada to the Hawaii of Europe (that’s how people call the Azores).

    Damn it felt good not to freeze anymore. Such a good idea to come here, from the first step to the last I had an amazing time.

    The hostel was great, the people I met are great, every day we did other activities. From jumping waterfalls to hot springs, tea museums, viewpoints, swimming in the ocean, beers, big dinners, techno parties and more!

    It was an absolute pleasure to be here and be part of the group we had.
    That was the best way to return to Europe, you can’t draw it better.
    This great time comes to an end now, on my way to Porto!

    Quick stop in Porto before I go home.
    Felt quite busy after being on an island, city is nice, many old Buildings, small streets and good bakeries.
    That’s all I can say, weather was good, I wonder if I will see the sun also in Germany.
