At around 9pm Scott was getting ready for bed when I remembered about the Northern Lights. I told Scott to go outside and have a look. He came inside and said he couldn’t see anything. I checked the Aurora App I have and it said there was a 95% chance of seeing the lights. I was quite excited and quickly put on some warm clothes and we raced to the car.

I quickly googled the best place to see the Northern Lights in Banff and headed towards Lake Minnewanka. As we drove we could see a green glow in the sky, but as there were so many cars leaving the lake I thought we had missed the lights.

As we pulled into the parking lot and found a park, there was a police car escorting cars across the bridge as there were people everywhere. We walked until we found a spot near the jetty where there were no lights. Scott had left the accommodation in his thongs! So I didn’t plan on spending to long in case his feet froze.

We took photos and could see the glow of the lights in the lake. We could see green and red colours in the sky, and the lights were dancing above us. We thought it was pretty special we were able to the northern lights. After over an hour of watching them and taking photos we thought we should head back to the accommodation as we had an early start driving to Lake Moraine in the morning.

As we were leaving the lights had started to fade but they were still dancing. When we arrived back at the accommodation we could now see the lights at the accommodation, and we thought we definitely went out at the right time. We fell asleep close to 11:30pm and had the alarms set for 5:30am.
