    Taking the night train

    May 13, 2022 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

We took a night train from Ninh Binh to Hue to cover some distance and reach Hoi An faster. We wanted to be there for the lantern festival which takes place every month during full moon.

It was the first time ever we took a night train and overall it was a nice experience. Some people we met in Hanoi told us the beds were really hard, which is true but for me they were very comfortable.

Our takeaways from the train ride:
🚂 Cabins are very small (6 beds per cabin) but it's enough space to store two big backpacks
🚂 Beds were acceptable and we could get enough sleep
🚂 Saves travel time during the day which is a big plus
🚂 AC in the train is very cold, warm clothes needed. There are blankets but they don't get cleaned in between different passengers using the beds so hygiene is ok (depends on previous guests) but not perfect
🚂 Be prepared to get up early as Vietnamese people will make a lot of noise once they wake up and won't let you sleep anymore (they really don't care about others). Our cabin was used as a place for a nice Vietnamese family gathering with lots of talking (=screaming), watching movies and making phone calls 😅

✅ We would do it again
