• Passau— Saint Stephen’s Basilica

    October 27 in Germany ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

We landed in Passau and took a guided walking tour to the very highest point in the old town where Saint Stephen’s Basilica is. It was a very active uphill walk on cobblestones with a guide
who was talking really quickly and moving very quickly. Saint Stephen’s Basilica is absolutely magnificent, large arches and sculptures and gold leaf and amazing painting on the ceiling, including a portion of the high arches where you stand and look straight up to see heaven and God and his angels looking down.
It’s stunning. Saint Stephen’s Basilica houses what used to be the largest organ in the world which is now second only to West Point. The Basilica can hold 8500 people. It was the most magnificent church that I’ve ever seen. We were rushed on a tour but sometime I would love to come back and sit inside this church for 45 minutes to an hour and just feel the vibe and look around.
