  • The Buren

    September 22, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Sunny morning in Doolin as we set off and head east and inland. Finally in time for a festival - a matchmaking festival! Pass that by and ride through a totally different landscape - the buren. Nice last day of cycling. Check into room, reorganize and have nice lamb dinnerRead more

  • Cliffs of Moher

    September 21, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Short day planned. Late start as we warm up in the sunshine and fight off aggressive farm animals. Short delay to deal with flat tire and then up to Cliffs of Moher. Many tourists but somehow manage to get in for free. Cruise down to Doolin and nice lovely campground.Read more

  • Kilkee Cliffs

    September 20, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 14 °C

We survived the night and awake to sun. And it changes but still much better than it has been. Face the wind for a bit and after a quick visit to a castle, head north with the wind. Travel along Loop Head peninsula and come upon Kilkee Cliffs. Amazing!! Rest of the ride is through countryside with rainbows around every turn. Stay at another deserted campground. Pub dinner as too cold to stay outsideRead more

  • Onto Clare County

    September 19, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Winds continue to howl but we were warm in our hotel. Start the day with a traditional Irish breakfast - not my favorite. Have a great tailwind to the ferry at talbert to take us across the bay. Ride in and out of the wind through very quiet farm lands. Find ourselves in a deserted caravan park. Able to tuck in between mobile homes and stay dry in their brand new kitchen.Read more

  • Amongst the sheep

    September 18, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Mostly sunny morning. Get a nice early start but then delayed by a flat tire. Having avoided the treacherous Connor Pass find ourselves climbing on a quiet road which deteriorates into an overgrown farm road which becomes a sheep field. Amazing views and plenty of sheep shit. But lovely. Cruise o down. Sit and eat scones while awaiting a passing shower. Find a kitten on the road and after pondering whether I should take it - the owner comes and claims her. Happy ending. Continue into the wind. No good camping spots so end in a warm hotel.Read more

  • Exploring Dingle

    September 17, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Opt to stay at our campground another night and explore Dingle more easily. Beautiful green hillsides. Mountains are bigger and seem to take up more of the peninsula. Dingle is a busy tourist town on a pretty bay. Go a bit further onto the peninsula. Take the bike route back and find ourselves in a cow traffic jam. Just don’t think about the “mud” we are riding through.Read more

  • Into the wind

    September 16, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

Beautiful sunny morning but crazy wind. Off we go, unfortunately with wind in front of us. Admire the cliffs as we pedal downhill. Finally turn a corner onto Dingle peninsula and fly to our campground by Inch Beach.Read more

  • Ring of Kerry continuned

    September 14, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

After a very soggy night we wake to a relatively calm morning. Cruise up a gentle grade over a 200 meter pass and down the other side. Meander inland and back out to the coast all the while being passed by tour buses - mostly going the opposite way. Take the bridge over to Valentía island and then ferry back to mainland. Arrive in Mannix point campground- a bit of heaven for campers.Read more

  • Onto the Kerry Peninsula

    September 13, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ 🌧 17 °C

Chilly morning but pull ourselves out of bed to try and beat wind and rain. First part of the ride is not very scenic as seem to be doing a lot of clear cutting. Make it to Smeem and have pastries. Wind starts as does the rain. Make it to campsite and set up. Lots of rain. Hang out in TV room which is quite cozy.Read more

  • Northbound on the Beara

    September 12, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Chilly but sunny morning. Steep climbs to start the day. Generally quiet road in good condition as we head towards Kenmare. No good camping options thus stay in a hostel. And with no kitchen have to go out to eat. Nice pub dinner - even with live music.Read more

  • Rest and enjoy the view

    September 11, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Opt for a day off the bikes as weather is less favorable and we need a rest. Morning rain stops and this go for a wee walk along the coast. Stop at our local pub to enjoy some inside time and Murphy’s stout. Wind really kicks up and break into my winter bag for a hat!Read more

  • Beara peninsula

    September 10, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Set off into the sunshine. Quite a few big hills in our way but at least the grade is manageable. ‘Mountains’ do seem to be getting bigger as we move northward. Wind and fog roll in as we head over the last one. Camp by small but sandy beach. Sadly tad bit chilly for a plungeRead more

  • Sheeps Head penninsula

    September 9, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Very foggy morning. Some lifting as we start to wind our way along the top. Big climb but gentle grade. Very eerie in the fog though it begins to lift as we rise above it. Cruise on down to the coast. Cross over to next peninsula- Sheep’s head. Opt to shorten the route a bit. Another sunny and humid day!Read more

  • Ireland and the Wild Atlantic way

    September 6, 2023 in Ireland ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Morning arrival in Cork allowed for a full day of cycling along the cost and in the countryside. Came to the start of Wild Atlantic Way. Given our delayed arrival, we will only cover part of it. Came to our first Irish farmers market and a nice lunch. Rolled along green countryside to our warm showers host. Visited our first Irish pub.Read more

  • To the ferry we go

    September 5, 2023 in France ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Last morning enjoying my coffe on the beach. Lovely warm morning. Say goodbye to our snail friends. Retrace our route a bit and make good time as have a bit of a tail wind. Stop along a beach for lunch. Make it to Roscoff with plenty of time. Dive into a liter of ice cream. Board the ferry and soon we will be off to Ireland. Our visit in France was quite nice!Read more

  • Sunshine surprise

    August 31, 2023 in France ⋅ 🌧 18 °C

After hearing ourselves up for a nasty weather day it turned out quite nice after morning drizzle. Found ourselves again amongst a large market. Opt for a shorter day and a tiny little cabana. And due to Brittany ferries price gauging we will be staying in France a few more days.Read more
