Egyptian and Jordan Adventure

Today, we were all looking forward to our visit to the main Petra site with its elaborate architecture carved out of the cliffs. Built by the Nabateans around 300 BC, about 30,000 people lived there in its heyday. Then the Bedouin lived there until it was re-discovered in 1812. We walked through the Siq, a narrow passage through high cliffs, which opened up at the Treasury, one of the most famous facades at Petra. With so much to visit, we headed first to the Monastery, a Nabatean tomb that is much bigger than the Treasury, reached by climbing the ancient path of nearly 1000 steps (in 34 degree heat!). Alternative means of transport (animals) were available, but we used our feet. Vicki measured: we had walked 14.2 kms for the day!!Meer informatie
