Monda sits atop a hill, in the foothills of La Sierra de las Nieves. The town is located slightly inland, a 15 minutes drive from Marbella. The town has a central village square called "Plaza de la Ermita". Lavadero de la Jaula is the town fountain and roofed lavadero (public laundry area), which dates from the 16th century. Las Gredas de Bolnuevo, also called Ciudad Encantada (enchanted city), are heavily eroded sandstone formations along the beach of Bolnuevo. The sandstone shapes are sculpted by water and wind over thousands of years and are considered as a monument of natural interest. The Ciudad Encantada is formed by clay (gredas). The yellowish color is caused by the large amount of sand contained in the clay. Furthermore, the clay consists of microfossils that date from the Pliocene period, about 4.5 million years ago. The sandstone has undergone an erosion process by the elements which resulted in mushroom and almost vertical shapes that seem to defy the laws of the gravity.Read more

En route to/from the Oli Oli Oil Mill, you pass by a family-owned winery, Chozas Carrascal. "All the wines we produce have a common link, their purely Mediterranean character, but with two additional variables that tweak and define the grapes that we get every year: the altitude of our vineyard, which range from 750 to 840 metres, one of the highest in the whole community, and the proximity to the Sierra Moreno."

We bought two beautiful wines: Las Ocho - which is a blend of 8 grapes: Monastrell, Garnacha Tinta, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot. We also bought their white wine - Las Tres - a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Macabeo.

The Benedictine monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, located in the municipality of Sant Fruitós de Bages, is one of Catalonia’s best-preserved medieval monastery complexes. Founded in 960 by the nobles Sal·la i Ricardis, it was consecrated in 972 with a first pre-Romanesque church that, in the 12th century, was replaced by the current Romanesque church, and a small cloister, made up of 64 capitals, all of them sculpted and that are still standing today. A large new Gothic cellar was built in the 14th century.
