We have decided to take a year out & backpack through a few countries. We hope to learn how to scuba, especially as some of the locations are once in a lifetime! When travelling we will book a couple of nights at each location and then wing it. Read more

    We made it safely to Bangkok after a 9hr flight which went smoothly. Bangkok is an amazing place ... very hot and sticky, add to that the crazy pace and you have a city that is a shock to the system !     12 hours on a bus to Krabi and then a taxi down to Ao Nang. The bus cost 15 pounds !! and is government owned , there were only about six other people on the 24 seat bus which meant a lot of service from the waitress - not!     Took a ferry over to Ko Phangan island and hope to get another dive trip organised . this is the hut we stayed in at Bankai Beach ... lovely place , shit service ! We decided to move to another part of the Island and this is our current hut at Aow PlaayLaem ... only 10 UK pounds a night !

    Travelling up to Chiang Mai on the overnight train ... 12 hrs for 10 UK pounds each ! what a bargain :o) Stayed in a great hostel, lots of temples and went on a cooking class , food was amazing.

    Over the border from Thailand in a small ferry boat to Huay Xai. $40 dollars for a thirty day visa. Next stop is Pak Beng ... only six hours on a slow boat down the Mekong River,
    the lovely Mekong River ... a little muddy and very fast moving. This is the view on the boat, four across with a nice little toilet at the back.Read more

    On the bus for 8 hrs ... to Vientiane, the capital of Laos.That Luang gives off a blinding reflection as the sun bounces off its golden surface, regilded in 1995 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Pathet Lao's proclamation of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, Wat Sisaket (Wat Sisaketsata Sahatsaham), Vientiane's oldest Buddhist monastery, was built by King Chao Anouvong in 1818.     Visited the Island of Don Khon and Don Det ... just a little way from Cambodia and very .. very peaceful. Electric from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm .. then candles only. Bikes are the only way to travel and the scenery is stunning. Si Pan Don or the Four Thousands Islands where thousands of isles and sandbars rise from the Mekhong River ・this is the widest part of the river breadth, expanding about 14 kilometers or nine miles.     Headed back to Phnom Penh which took 4hrs on the bus then decided to head straight for Ho Chi Minh city ... another 6hrs. The bus ride was very smooth HCMC looks interesting.

    Cu Chi Tunnels, Cambodia

    Cu chi district is well-known nationwide as the base where the Vietnamese mounted their operations of the Tet Offensive in 1968.The tunnels are between 0.4 to 1m wide, parts of the tunnels have been modified to accommodate visitors. The underground network provided meeting rooms, sleeping quarters, commanding rooms, hospitals, and other social rooms. By visiting the Cu Chi tunnels provides a better understanding of the prolonged resistance war of the Vietnamese people and also of the persistent and clever character of the Vietnamese nation.
