    14 de diciembre de 2006, Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We did not want to leave Mui Ne but time is running out .... so our next stop is the more up beat city of Nha Trang. We hope to go diving again but only have a couple of days before we catch a train to Hoi An. Only 5hrs on the bus this time !! On the northwest side of Nha Trang is Long Son Pagoda, an active Buddhist temple featuring an unusual red brass Buddha on a wooden lotus pedestal. On top of a hill behind the pagoda is the massive 9-m high white Buddha on a lotus throne.Leer más

  • Hanoi, Vietnam

    22 de diciembre de 2006, Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

After another massive 14hrs in a train we are in Hanoi. The train was not so bad as we had a soft sleeper but finding our hotel was a real pain. Ho Chi Minh embalmed body was put on display in a granite mausoleum modeled after Lenin's Tomb in Moscow. The small lake between the Old Quarter and the French Quarter is central to Hanoian folklore. A ghostly shrine (the Turtle Pagoda) standing on an islet at its center pays homage to a golden turtle. In the 15th century, this heroic reptile is said to have returned a magic sword to its home in the lake after it had been taken.Leer más

  • Agra, India

21 de enero de 2007, India

In the midst of this sea of people, suddenly you come face to face with the ramparts of the Red Fort. The decision for constructing the fort was taken in 1639, when Shahjahan decided to shift his capital to Delhi. Within eight years, Shahjahanabad was completed with the Red Fort-Qila-i-Mubarak (fortunate citadel)-Delhi's seventh fort, ready in all its magnificence to receive the Emperor. Though much has changed now because of large-scale demolitions during the British occupation of the fort, its important structures have survived, the glory faded with age but still impressiveLeer más

  • Taj Mahal, India

    22 de enero de 2007, India ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Today we visited Agra , home of the Taj Mahal and what an amazing sight it is .... pictures do not do it justice but i hope you like these. On June 17, 1631 Mumtaz Mahal died, her husdand Shahjahan stood dazed, unable to comprehend the situation. He had promised her never to remarry and to build the grandest mausoleum over her grave. Her body received a temporary burial in the Zainabadi Garden in Burhanpur and in six months time removed to Agra. Here was to be built the Taj Mahal. Thousands of artisans and laborers toiling ceaselessly to build this amazing temple.Leer más

So far the Indian food has been very good, the city life is very hectic and the people are friendly. The 'Taj' opposite the gateway of India and the harbour. Built in 1903 it is one of the major attractions of Mumbai and a big meeting place for both tourist's and locals. The 'gateway of India' built by the british to welcome King George and Queen Mary in 1911.Leer más

  • Patnem Beach, India

    27 de enero de 2007, India ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Heading down to the beach again, this time it is Goa. We are leaving on the bus at 7:30pm and should arrive sometime the next morning. This time it is a luxury recliner for 700 rupees each, the term 'luxury' is questionable !
Bus trip was not very good, firstly this little bus boy tried to bribe us to keep our luggage safe and then this poor passenger was continuosly sick (five times) without the bus pulling over .... so sleeping was out of the question for the night. Our favorite beach location at Patnem, and Agonda beach was very peaceful.
