• Salt mine tour

    March 19 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F

We booked a tour of a salt mine as "salt" is the namesake of Salzburg. Our van driver was a very colorful character named Leopold. He drove us through some beautiful countryside and then showed us "The Eagle's Nest". Yes, the secret bunker of Adolph Hitler.
Our driver then took us to the salt mines. We had to don miner's coveralls (very stylish), and then we rode a train into the mine.
Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take any pictures, but I found some stock photos to show what we experienced.
Two different times, we had to slide down a miner's slide to get to a deeper level. So fun!
Then, a short boat ride on an underground brine lake ended our journey before getting back on the train.
It was fascinating to see the process of drilling, flooding, and pumping brine water to mine the salt.
