Summer in Coconino National Forest

We are spending our second summer in cool Flagstaff, AZ. We really enjoy being able to escape the summer triple digit temperatures of Apache Junction.

This year because of CoVid 19, all the volunteers were quarantined for 14 days after arrival. All of the volunteers are returning from last year, so it's a nice reunion.

Here are some pictures from a drive we took around the forest. Ashurst Lake is southeast of Flagstaff off of Lake Mary road. It has water all year, unlike some of the seasonal lakes in this dry area, and it is stocked with fish. There are two campgrounds on this lake with nice views of the San Francisco Peaks in the background.

Mormon Lake is near this area too. It is huge, but too shallow for even a canoe. Mormon Lake Village has some more campgrounds, cabins, and a lodge with a steakhouse.Read more
