    Forsyth Park

Another beautiful Green space in Savannah. It's too bad this program won't allow me to upload videos. The sounds of the cicadas as we walked down this one path toward the fountain was almost deafening.

    Girl Scout First Headquarters

Visited the original headquarters of girl scouts. The meetings used to take place in the old carriage house of the home she shared with her husband. They had a great display of old uniforms dating back to the beginning in 1912, including the one I used to wear when I was a girl scout. Unfortunately they didn't allow ANY photography in the room with all the uniforms so I'm including an old pic of mine in my uniform.

    Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace

We got to tour the home where the founder of Girl Scouts was born and learned more about her and her life. She was an amazing woman. The table pictured is where she got the first group of girls together in 1912 and started the Girl Scouts.

    Jones Street

Jones Street is considered one of the prettiest streets in Savannah with houses generally dating from the 1850's to 1860's, beautiful trees lining the street and I love the gas porch lights!

This is the house that we stayed in on Tybee Island while we were in GA. It was an easy drive into Savannah for the couple of days we went into the city and the other days we were close to the beach activities and it was a very relaxing atmosphere. The beach was less than a half block from the house.

    Boiled peanuts

We waited a week to try boiled peanuts. Probably could have waited a few years more! There actually were a few of our group that liked them. I think when it comes to boiled peanuts you either love them or hate them. I tried them a few years ago and hated them. Thought I would give them a second try. Nope, still hate them. I just wish my phone had not been dead at the time. I missed the priceless look on Christina's face when she tried one. I'll just say she did not love them. So, the conversation went like this. Lindsey, who liked them, and actually ate several, decided it was like eating beans. Christina quickly pointed out that peanuts are legumes just like beans. So she wondered why no one has ever smashed up peanuts to make refried peanuts like beans. I responded, they have - it's called peanut butter! Can you imagine 5 days of driving during this trip, all filled with these types of conversations??

    Nashville

We stayed just north of Nashville Friday night so decided to drive though and find a place to eat. We really wanted to go to the Sun Diner which was next to the Johnny Cash Museum but quickly figured out that it was way too close to honky tonk row and that was not the place we wanted to be on a Friday night. So we headed to the hotel and found a local Mexican restaurant. Was actually very good food! But we did decide to drive back though town the next morning after we went to the Parthenon. Drove by the Ryman Auditorium and just looked around town a bit.

    The Parthenon

Funny story, I asked the girls if they wanted to go see the Parthenon while we were in Nashville. They read about it and how it is a replica of the Parthenon on Greece and got really excited to go, then I decided to look it up and found that it is only open until 4:30 and we would be getting into town much later than that. Oops! We did decide to backtrack the next morning before heading out of town so we could at least see it, even though it didn't open until 9:00 and we were leaving at 8:00. So in the end we just walked around and saw the outside. Very impressive and it is in a beautiful park. Another place added to our list of places we would all like to return to someday.

    Casey IL

Not quite sure how I found this place, but I'm glad that I did. It only took us about 10 minutes out of our way according to Google map, but we did a lot of driving in the middle of cornfields. It was kind of nice to have the time to make a little side trip like this. So, Casey IL is a town of big things. Some are certified by Guinness, some are not. They have the biggest rocking chair, mailbox, birdcage, golf tee, knitting needles, crochet hook, widen shoes, wind chime and pitchfork. I think I might have missed a couple. Neet town! It was a great mid day break and they have a wonderful restaurant we ate at before getting back on the road.

    Oilfield IL

I honestly had no idea that there were oil fields in Illinois! Not only are there, but there is also a town called Oilfield, IL. We would have never known that had we stayed on the interstate. Sometimes it is fun to take the road less traveled. Of course, the girls were getting tired of having no service for their phones (at one time I actually had to pull out a paper map!) So the conversation in the car as we're on the back roads in the middle of all the corn fields in Illinois:
Natalie: How do people live out here with no cell service?
Kathy: They probably use satellite service.
Elizabeth: No they probably communicate with cows.
Natalie: So like 3 brown cows in the field means let's go to dinner!
See, they really do still have an imagination.
Of course Christina and I did our job entertaining them. Do you know how bizarre the end of the "I found a peanut" song really is. No spoilers here, look it up on you tube. But no matter what you find on you tube, it won't compare to the Kathy and Christina duet version. You just had to be there!

    Final day, United States

Well we made it. We're almost home. Spent the last night in Janesville, WI. It was a great trip! No mishaps or disasters. The weather was HOT but that was to be expected, and it rained/stormed every day of our trip, but the timing of the storms was amazing and we never missed a beat, or a scheduled activity. The girls were all amazing. They were troopers during the long car rides, and patient with us adults during our crabbier moments. A fun time was had by all, and congrats to Elizabeth who won both rounds of our travel scavenger hunt. One last stop at Coldstone for ice cream (for lunch) and then home. Christina and I did get in one last rendition of Found a Peanut and Yeah Boy (in honor of Kelly) before we got home. I think the girls are going to miss us!
