Temples and beaches are our lives now

    April 23, 2017 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 30 °C

I had a great and much needed lie in today. After a poorly night it was definitely needed and I woke up feeling a little better. Nick was lovely and went out earlier to get fresh juices for us and we headed out afterwards for some breakfast. We went to a nice little place and I had some "lemon" and sugar pancakes which are actually created with lime. Either they don't think there is a difference or they are named the opposite way round to the UK. After breakfast we caught a taxi to a very ornate and decorative temple. Above the temple was a huge white statue of a Buddha. Nick had researched before and found out that the 7 statues that sit around the base of the Buddha are portraits of 7 people who sacrificed themselves for their religion in the 60s by setting themselves on fire. The views of the city at the top were stunning but we were so overly hot that we didn't get to enjoy them for long. We encountered our first group of tourists wanting photos with us in Vietnam. They didn't want any with Nick, just me, and one woman even took his sunglasses to wear on his head as I was doing. It was a constant rotation of women posing with me and all touching my very sweaty skin! After the photo shoot we left the temple and headed for the beach to have a lazy afternoon and to get in the sea. The beach had a Miami feel with the sky scrappers in the background and palm trees. We set up on some loungers and headed for the waves. The water was warm but so refreshing. Unfortunately it felt very dirty though and had a lot of rubbish in it so it was a little off putting. After a swim we chilled out on the loungers before having an early dinner and heading back to the hotel to do some planning and pack up ready for our train journey tomorrow!Read more
