Nearing the end
December 3, 2017 in New Zealand ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C
There are only three more working days for us which is so exciting, sad and scary all at the same time. I can't believe how quickly 4 months has flown by and it's finally hitting me that I will be leaving these little girl's lives very soon. It's been a week of doing fun things and making the most of our time together. I had two days with Cassidy off preschool this week so for the first one we went back to the beach which has become a favourite spot for her and the second we visited Peel Forest, somewhere Candy had shown me but I hadn't visited yet. It was so lovely with walks for all different ability levels including ones suitable for prams. We talked about different types of plants, the different shades of green and Cassidy showed a particular interest in moss and leaf skeletons. She was in her learning element and the only downside was the walk wasn't longer. We did do it twice though. Seeing as the forest day was my last non preschool day with the girls I treated them too a nice lunch at the forest's cafe which included homemade sausage rolls and cake. The food was lovely and I've already decided that Nick and I need to come and stay here as soon as possible after leaving. Cassidy said the cutest thing to me this week, it went: "Charlotte, are you my nanny?" "Yes Cassidy I am your nanny" "Are you my friend Charlotte?" "Of course I'm your friend Cassidy" "So you're my friend and my nanny... I love you nanny Charlotte." It was so beyond adorable and made the prospect of leaving even sadder. After having issues at preschool she has had a pretty well behaved week with no biting. She was bit herself by another child which I was there to witness and I think it has really brought it home for her how much biting hurts. She's getting on so much better and hopefully it continues that way even once I'm gone. Candy's garden is full of roses at the moment of all varieties so I picked us two new bunches of them for her house which has made the place smell amazing. She also has quite a successful vegetable patch and I've become an expert in blanching and freezing broccoli, cauliflower, spinach and silverbeat. I feel so ready to have my own vegetable patch after all I've learnt from maintaining hers. I spent my day off being super productive until we saw a van we really wanted to buy to discover the bed wasn't even long enough for me to sleep on. My feet were hanging off the end so we've learnt a valuable lesson to always ask for bed measurements before going any further with viewings. It was rather disheartening that once again we're back to square one with the campervan hunt but we do want the van to be right for us so I think we're right to be picky. I have been asked to work on my other day off for 5 hours which means I can't do what I had planned for the day but the extra time with the girls so close to us leaving will be lovely.Read more
