Day 1 in Victoria Falls

Quite a contrast.
We arrived at our accommodation and the setting is beautiful.
We were offered a city tour and to stop at a local market (for tourists).
The guides name is Clouds yes that right....but quite a comic!
An eye opener...

We headed out for a hike around Vic Falls this morning...
The photo's don't do it justice but it was stunning. This is the start of the wet season so the Falls are dry.
You'll see some folks in the wading pools above the Falls as well...

Evening cruise on the Zambezi

We had the good fortune to take an evening boat trip along the Zambezi.
One side of the river is Zimbabwe and the other Zambia.
Amazing wildlife again along the river.

Day 3 - Chobe

We headed into Botswana today for a Safari in Chobe.
On the way...100's of little dung beetles on the road trying to make their ways but also had one of the best sightings of a lion strolling along the road. Good start to the day.Okumaya devam et

Botswana

Border control was interesting. We crossed the border between Zimbabwe & Botswana by walking across the entrance and stepped in a muddy solution apparently to stop infections and transmissible diseases. It was a mud trough. Then open air customs offices to review our passports.

Botswana touring land & river

We picked up a young guide/driver in Chobe National Park, Joe. Nice young man.
The scenery was surprisingly different from Kruger. The rain season had just started and boy were we stuck in it for the afternoon on the boat (if you could call it that) trip.
The colours were beautiful..and the scenery brilliant.
Unfortunately we did see too many trucks circling when the animals were sighted which just sent them scurrying.Okumaya devam et

Morroco, here we are!

Gruelling day of flying from Jburg to Doha and then on to Casablanca.. Huge faff with transport from the airport to our hotel. Took hours to get through immigration and our driver got fed up waiting for us. But we are now in our hotel and relaxing.
The landscape from the airplane looked very very dry.. never saw a single river or lake.. Casablanca looks beautiful - more pictures tomorrow..Okumaya devam et

Casablanca...intro..

City has a population of 4 million but according to our driver it's 6 million and main language used is Arabic and French but again according to our driver they don't use French (though it's used on the street signs)...ahh..what an interesting city.
The traffic is chaotic with motorcyclists everywhere who must pray daily that they survive 😀
Also another interesting observation was that of the cafe's. The majority only had men who sat outside smoking. Not a woman in sight.Okumaya devam et

Casablanca...the beginning

What a day it turned out to be. We had the best of time with meeting some new friends, now extended family according to Dave, Aya who works at and we met at the hotel at breakfast as well as Oomaima. Aya was so welcoming to us and agreed to take us out and around Casablanca along with Oomaima her lovely friend. So we trammed it to the old Medina Markets and around the historic area of Casablanca as well as the park. We tried snail soup as well as snail..yes that's right which is a traditional soup in Morocco. Thanks to the girls it made our day.Okumaya devam et

Day 2 Casablanca...

We had to say goodbye to the girls 😪 until we meet again. Aya made me a traditional mint tea this morning at breakfast before our farewell.
We moved onto a new hotel to start the tour from tomorrow met 2 from our group...from Adelaide!

Tour starts today

Group tour started today 1st stop was the Hassan II Mosque . Very ornate mosque full of Italian marble, and Venetian glass and wood carvings. One of the largest in the world with a beautiful backdrop of the sea.
Next stop Rabat for a couple of nights..capital of Morocco
Immediate difference- not a car or bike horn heard..so quiet 😀

Rabat is much quieter and appears more orderly. Lots of stately buildings. We walked down to the Souk and meandered the markets. Stopped at a boulangerie and there were 2x as many bees there having a feast than food. Didn't seem to bother the locals.
After lunch we headed on a lengthy drive to Chefchaouen the blue city. Unfortunately as we arrived at 7pm didnt see much blue! But tomorrow we're out exploring all day which we're looking forward to.
Only thing we did find was a camel on the road.Okumaya devam et

Chefchaouen

Pronounced chef-chuan 😀 what a beautiful blue town (not city - they say).
Unfortunately it hasn't stopped raining since we arrived but that didn't dampen our walk this morning. The local guide was excellent.
The town is 600 mtr above sea level and the buildings were all painted blue in the 1980's as they were previously painted white and too reflective. We walked around the old city and had some extras with us 😀
The place is a tourist mecca but beautiful...as you'll see.
We said we'd love to come back...any takers 😆Okumaya devam et

Driving onto Fez

On the drive out of Chefchaouen to Fez with a stop at Volubilis..we passed farm land with olive plantings, fruiy trees, corn and wheat with may donkeys and even camels.
Stopped at Volubilis which is an ancient Roman archaeological site.
Onto Fez.
We arrived late afternoon and are staying in Medina and in a riad. The rooms are very exotic.Okumaya devam et

We ate a local restaurant for dinner in a riad and on the way there walked through a local market...dates galore in various forms....yummm.
And...the odd camel head !!..not so yumm

Around Fez....pt 1

Today we trotted around Fez on foot and van.
Our morning started a little slow as there was a marathon being held in Fez.
The town has a population of about 1.6 million and i think they all lived in the Medina! It hasn't changed since 808 BC. Crazy place.
I'll do this over a couple of pages as we visited -
Panoramic views..though it was raining in the morning.
Moroccan university- oldest in the world.
Mosaic tile factory
Fes El Bali - ancient Medina in the old city.
Cactus silk factory
Moroccan tannery...and yes it does stink of pigeon droppings. We were given mint to help with the scent.

Our ride to the Sahara..

As we leave Fez we're drowning with rain, our guide, Abdul, said its astounding...but was referring to the weather not his group...😀
We drove through Ifrane which they say is Morocco's version of Switzerland! skiing place, with horses and monkey's and a cedar forest.
We drive along the Atlas Mountains and gladly it stops raining and starts to warm up. Bedouin people live in this area.
Beautiful colours....
The day aside from scrumptious lunch at a friendly family's place was mainly on the road.

After a leisurely morning we headed to a village call Khamilia for lunch. These are Berber people who performed their music.
The afternoon was shopping for a scarf for Dave's Lawrence of Arrabia moment and our camel ride. What an adventure that was. We watched the sunset and rode on down to our camp for the evening dinner and celebrations.
The ride was entertaining the camel ahead decided to spray camel wee and shit and flicked it back then farted his way back to camp!!!! The best 👍.
