  • ABBA Voyage Take 2 🎬🕺🏼💃🏼💃🏼🕺🏼

    11. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

With extremely full bellies after our Goring High Tea we caught 2 trains on the Tube 🚇 and a bus…headed to ABBA’s purpose made Arena in Stratford. This was my second time and I enjoyed it differently. It is so well done and the crowd really responds with great enthusiasm and energy. There is so much love and respect ✊🏻 in the room for ABBA. Their music 🎶 will truly live on, long after we are all gone. Photos are strictly prohibited 🚫 so that’s why there are not many. It actually makes for a lovely experience where everyone is actually living truly ‘in the moment’Læs mere

  • Big Ben: Up Close & Personal 🔔

    12. maj 2025, England ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Today we had the absolute thrill of climbing all 334 steps inside the iconic Elizabeth Tower—an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Standing in the bell chamber as Big Ben struck
1 PM was nothing short of magical; the deep, resonant chime echoing through the tower was both powerful and humbling. To be so close to such a world-famous symbol of London history, feeling its vibrations in real time, filled me with awe and joy. This wasn’t just a tour—it was a moment of pure exhilaration, etched forever in memory.

    Betcha didn’t know:

Big Ben isn’t the tower – Most people call the whole structure Big Ben, but technically, Big Ben is the nickname for the Great Bell, not the clock or the tower. The tower itself was originally called the Clock Tower and was renamed Elizabeth Tower in 2012 for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.

Big Ben cracked almost immediately – The Great Bell first chimed in 1859, but cracked just two months later. Rather than replace it, they simply rotated the bell slightly and used a lighter hammer, which is why Big Ben has its distinctive tone today.

The clock is famously accurate – Its timekeeping is regulated by old British pennies placed on the pendulum. Adding or removing a coin can adjust the clock’s timing by 0.4 seconds per day.

The clock faces are enormous – Each dial is 7 meters (23 feet) in diameter, and the minute hands are over 4 meters (14 feet) long—about the length of a London double-decker bus!

I absolutely loved this experience, honestly one of the best experiences of MY LIFE! Therefore this entire blog is dedicated to The beautiful ELIZABETH TOWER & bold BIG BEN ❤️🤍💙🇬🇧

(PS: No photos allowed on Tour so I found some representative from the web 🙃)

  • That’s All!

    12. maj 2025, England ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

After watching the movie last night in our glamorous Battersea apartment, we are now sitting waiting for the curtain to rise for The Devil Wears Prada Musical…thanks to Elton John and Lady Furnish!

Stalls E 22/23 just close enough to see the expressions & feel the sweat fly from the stars’ brows and bodies! But not too close that the neck would strain and stretch!

    Curtain’s rising!

    Review soon…

    🌟🌟🌟🌟

It has Elton John all over it. It was really good… stayed very true to the movie. I think it will go a long way. Vanessa Williams was great as Miranda Priestley. The person they had playing Andi was a little bit old but with a few tweaks I’m sure it will run for a long time making Elton a lot of money … Especially seeing as he also has an avenue to sell his ‘special’ glasses. 🤓😜

    That’s all!

  • Leisurely London 🛍️

    13. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Wandering around the posh areas, peeking 👀 in some of Londons finest: Fortnum & Mason established 1707, Liberty London in Tudor style and meandering along Carnaby & Regent Streets which was still decked out in Union Jacks 🇬🇧 Mark made good use of his Wise Credit card 💳, especially in F&M because Teal was the primary colour while I was happy to look around and take in the opulence 💎

We also checked out the relatively new shopping precinct near our accommodation: Battersea Power Station. It is basically like a huge DFO or Westfield shopping Centre. Fairly soulless to be honest. Was going to go up the lift which is inside one of the towers but the wait was too long today.

  • Routemaster Tea & Friendship ✊🏻🥰🚍

    13. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Theory & Practice are two different things when it comes to holiday activity planning. Today we shook, rattled & rolled throughout London on a 60’s Route-master bus which seemed like a good idea at the time AND, I’m certain it will seem better than it actually was with the passing of that same concept: time! My advice, if you’re thinking of doing it… I suggest going to M&S and buying yourself a ‘meal deal’, hailing the closest double decker and sitting upstairs with a cup of English Breakfast Tea… you will be less disappointed 🙃😉

On the upside, Marta & I caught up with a work colleague from the Empire Theatre 🎭 Sadique, 28 years on! What a truly wonderful evening of laughter and reminiscing, recollection & remembering. It reminded us of the true magic that is made possible through our memories and life experiences! To top it off, we were in a beautiful venue overlooking London as the light of day faded into the spectacle of night! It is in these special moments that we are absolutely grateful ☺️ ✊🏻❤️

  • Our Maids of Honour & Ted Lasso ⚽️

    14. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

The Maids of Honour Tart has been part of Richmond history for nearly 500 years. It is believed that Henry VIII was the first to use its name when he met Ann Boleyn and other Maids Of Honour at his Royal Household of Richmond Palace eating the cakes from a silver dish.

Tasting one for himself, the King was so delighted by its ‘melt-in-the-mouth’ sensation that he confiscated the recipe and demanded it be kept secret in a locked iron box at Richmond Palace. Essentially, it’s a Portuguese Tart and we had all tasted better…

Guess What? We had another High Tea. The food included freshly made sandwiches with delicious fillings, homemade bacon, tomato and salmon quiche, yummy sausage rolls & fluffy scone, jam & cream. I’m pretty sure that’s the final High Tea for me for a while! Might need a gluten free diet when i return home after all the cake and bread.

We farewelled Marta, flying home to Italy 🇮🇹 tonight. Another happy London holiday done good 🇬🇧 ✅

Time for a bit of a whinge: Just for the record, a coffee costs $8-$9 here and mostly tastes like hot water! Ive had my last one of those too.
And London, with climate change it might be time to pump some air conditioning into the PT network! Just saying! 😉 and the traffic 🚦 congestion is next level! I’ve probably noticed it more due to using more buses than usual.

Anyway, back to Richmond which is also famous for Ted Lasso! Yes, BELIEVE it! We took a wander into town and saw The Prince’s Head Pub: Known as the Crown & Anchor in the show. It’s right next to Richmond Green which also features prominently in the series ⚽️ 🥅

  • Pumpkin Style Coach

    15. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

The weather 🌦️ has made a full 360 degree turnaround today. A chilly 🥶 wind, grey and cloudy ☁️ skies. Much like my mood, to be honest. Feeling a bit ‘flatsy-doll’ today. But, that’s just me sometimes, even on holiday. Still, took ourselves off to see the coaches at the Royal Mews behind Buckingham Palace.
Kimmie would have been impressed! 😉The opulent Gold State Coach was the most impressive and it was great to see the Glass Coach up so close, having seen it used on so many spectacular ceremonies and special occasions.

To top off this Royal Romp I took myself off to the National Gallery and literally whizzed past everything & everyone just to see the brand new official Coronation Portraits. Displayed here until being permanently relocated to the Throne Room at Buckingham Palace

  • Secret Food & Showtunes 🎭 in Soho

    15. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

Enjoyed the Secret Food tour equivalent of our SFT Tour in Melbourne… It was great. There are actually five different tours to choose from here in London & we did the one in Soho. We visited places where you got to sample lots of delicious foods including Arancini with black truffles, Beef Rendang (a little too spicy 🌶️ for me!), London Dry Gin, Chinese Bao, cheese croquettes and more. The best part was the guide, Gary’s knowledge of the area…particularly the bohemian past which was very interesting.

In 1963, the Rolling Stones recorded their first single, “Come On,” at Regent Sound Studios on Denmark Street. The band also played early gigs at Soho clubs, including the Marquee Club on Wardour Street, which became a launchpad for many major rock acts. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were immersed in Soho’s gritty energy, which influenced their raw blues-rock sound.

Though Amy Winehouse was famously linked with Camden, she frequented Soho’s jazz clubs like Ronnie Scott’s—a legendary venue that shaped her musical style. She performed there and soaked up the history of Soho’s jazz scene. Her music carried the essence of vintage Soho: smoky, soulful, and a little bit wild.

While mostly associated with Abbey Road and Liverpool, The Beatles also frequented Soho. They played early gigs at the Marquee Club and hung out in Denmark Street. Paul McCartney has spoken about the importance of Tin Pan Alley to the early days of their career, where songwriters and music publishers were buzzing.

Afterwards, we went out to the unique but very loud “Room where it happens” in SoHo. Essentially it is a bar where the waiters and servers burst into song and the piano 🎹 continues to play constantly with showtunes. In the right frame of mine it would’ve been fantastic, but we met one of Marks friends and it was probably more of a distraction than an interaction at that stage!

It had turned freezing 🥶 today so beanies & coats were the order of the day too!

  • To Market, To Market…

    16. maj 2025, England ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

So, I got up early to head to the Borough Market and discovered it didn’t open until 10 am. When it did open, it was like people fell from the sky! They were everywhere! It wasn’t as big as I thought but plenty of delicious stands to wander through. Just for the record, the prices are hefty and high and the lines are long for the TikTok-able foods like the giant pulled pork sandwiches, oysters and choc coated strawberries. I personally enjoyed mushroom risotto and Apple crumble smothered in custard. 😋

From there I walked across London Bridge to the Monument that commemorates the fire of London in 1966. I climbed the 377 steps to witness fantastic views of Tower Bridge and the Shard. Monument is 61 meters tall: the exact distance from where the fire started in Pudding Lane. Continued a leisurely stroll through the streets of London, past St Paul’s Cathedral, relaxed in Inner Temple Gardens and onto Covent Garden.

Well, the trip is coming to an end. If confirmed, we start the long journey back home at 9pm 🕘 tomorrow night!

  • Farewell London ❤️🤍💙

    17. maj 2025, England ⋅ ⛅ 12 °C

The long journey home begins today, but we carry with us the happy memories of the past three weeks — which somehow feel like a whole year. That must be the sign of a truly great holiday.

London has been a delight. The weather was incredible — more chaotic and expensive than ever, yes — but we were blessed with only three drops of rain and sunshine nearly every day. We couldn’t have asked for better.

And now, in true London fashion, let’s mark the end of our adventure with the iconic 1969 “Mind the Gap” announcement by Oswald Laurence, still heard on the northbound Northern Line platform at Embankment station.
    ❤️🤍💙
