    21 décembre 2024, Corée du Sud ⋅ 🌬 34 °F

Few hour stop in the Seoul airport. Made sure to locate some dumplings asap 🥟

As you can see, Claire got her beauty sleep 💁🏻‍♀️ and Grant didn’t 😵

  • Thai Massage & Night Market

    22 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ 🌙 68 °F

First day exploring Chiang Mai, the vibes are excellent in this city. It’s bustling, but everyone is relaxed and nice. We spent most the day between things walking around and taking it in!

After lunch, we got our first Thai Massages. We both loved it. Grant got a bloody nose in the middle of it so that was entertaining for everyone 🙈

We ended the day with a private tour of the night markets in town. We visited 3 markets and tried a bunch of dishes! Claire’s already talking about making Khao Soi at home 😋

  • Buddhist Temples with Boy

    23 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

We love how quiet the mornings can be in the city! We had an early tour with Boy to learn about the temples in town. There’s 400+ in the city but we did our best and saw 9!

Boy filled us in on Buddhist traditions and the history of the city. Before this, we didn’t know what to make of the temples or how to visit them respectfully. Boy was so helpful in teaching us and giving us context! Everyone is welcome inside if you take your shoes and hats off. The temples were beautiful and filled with interesting sculptures and wood carvings 🐲

After our tour, Boy dropped us off at his recommendation for lunch and it was packed with Thai press and security. We were nosy and stuck around to see and the former Prime Minister of Thailand came to eat lunch! He seems like an extra big deal because his daughter is the current Prime Minister. Kinda the George H. W. Bush of Thailand 😂

  • Hike to Mountian Temples

    23 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Boy pointed us in the direction of the 3 temples in the mountains. The first one, the forest temple, was a 30 min hike up! Boy undersold the terrain so Claire trekked it in her nice dress and sandals 😅

First temple was awesome, hard to capture in photos but it was built in 1298 with many buildings and statues along a waterfall. It was a very peaceful place.

We hopped in a truck to take up to the top of the mountain to the most famous temple,
Wat Phra That. We walked up the huge staircase lined with green dragons to the top to see the gold pagoda and the view of the city from the mountain. We were able to see the monks chanting, which Boy told us they do morning and night to memorize teachings.

Claire and I rewarded our little hike with a Michelin guide dinner! They focused on traditional Thai, which meant SPICY 🥵🌶️ It was still so good.

  • Northern Thai Cooking Class

    24 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

    Cooking up something good! 🥘

We took an all day cooking class that specialized in Northern Thai food. We made a bunch of dishes and they taught the foundations of the flavors 😋 We made a local version of red curry, used a wok over coal fire, and cooked with banana blossoms! The pictures of the cone and the little sprouts were baby bananas 🍌 We learned a lot and really liked the instructor, but not sure the traditional outfits are our best look 😂

As always, we rewarded our efforts with a massage! We tried an traditional herbal ball massage at a really nice spa. Again, they put us in a very flattering outfit for the experience 🙄🤣

  • Christmas at the Sticky Waterfall

    25 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

Ho ho ho 🎅🏽 off to the sticky waterfall we go!

Claire picked out a great tour to the Sticky Waterfall! Our guide, Annie, and group were great and we met some interesting people. The waterfall was way cooler than either of us expected! It’s called the “Sticky Waterfall” due to the calcium in the water covering the rocks and creating a smooth but grippy surface that you can easily climb up! The secret was getting there early, we had the whole place to ourselves.

After, we visited a local Buddhist shrine in a cave and saw a bunch of bats! 🦇

  • Day with Makkapa

    26 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 66 °F

Our elephant day was nuts 🥜

We drove 2 hours to a remote village where the tribe has elephants and runs a small day tour for 10 people a day. They also had a baby elephant who was 4 years old! The day was focused on caring for them and learning how to tell if an elephant is heathy and happy! We got our own elephant to take care of for the day, Makkapa, who is 49 years old. We cleaned and fed her in the morning (she eats a lot!) and after lunch we took her for a walk and bath. Claire was the first one of the whole group to get on their elephant!

Grant rode Makkapa on the way back from the bath and she reached out on the side of the road and ripped a whole banana tree out of the ground for a snack! She ate the whole thing on the walk home 😂

It was an amazing experience to get more comfortable with Makkapa and we learned a lot! Riding was a wild experience and one of the coolest things we’ve ever done 🐘

  • Street Food Night

    26 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ 🌙 77 °F

After a long elephant day, we wandered the night markets for dinner! One stand was a Michelin guide food stand for “Roti” which is a delicious fried crepe-like treat! Claire said it would be hard to make at home 👎🏼

Our haul included a pork steamed bun, Korean fried chicken bites, local lychee juice, pork stir fry (the wait for this stall is usually more than an hour but we were lucky and only had a 25 minute wait!), grilled meat and veggies, mango and passion fruit smoothie, another roti, and a two toned tea (Thai tea and matcha).

It’s fun to feel comfortable here and continue exploring 😄

  • Travel to Tonsai Beach

    27 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 84 °F

2 planes, 1 bus, and 1 boat ride later; this place is so worth it!

Tonsai Beach is incredible and our place is stunning. All the adventure was fun, but this is definitely honeymoon material 😍

  • Perfect Day On Tonsai

    28 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ 🌧 84 °F

Tonsai is one of the most beautiful places either of us has been! It’s like staying at Jurassic park with the mountains all around 🦖

It was nice to have a slower day by the pool and Grant kept the fresh fruit smoothie shack lady busy all day! His favorite flavors is a tie between watermelon and pineapple 🍉🍍En savoir plus

  • Pork of Doom

    29–30 déc. 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

Traveled from Tonsai Beach to Ko Lanta! We took a small longtail boat to a ferry. It was a smooth trip!

Then our luck took a turn…

We were starving so we grabbed our first meal on Ko Lanta near the pier. The first picture was Grant’s last smile before a terrible next day and a half. Unfortunately, we both got food poisoning. This slowed down the fun of our trip for a bit but we luckily recovered quickly. Ko Lanta and our resort were beautiful though! ☀️En savoir plus

  • Scootin’ Around

    31 décembre 2024, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

    We are sooo back!!

With the help of Dr. Regan, we are back on our feet! We rented a scooter to cruise around the island. Ko Lanta is known for being quieter and having lots of lesser-known beaches to explore. This was a big part of why we chose this island and it didn’t disappoint!

We found and enjoyed two beaches, Nui Bay and Bamboo Bay. Both were quiet with just a single beach bar and a massage hut. We lucked into some perfect spots and spent the whole day relaxing!

  • Snorkeling on Ko Haa & Ko Rok

    1 janvier 2025, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Joined a snorkeling tour to two islands on a speed boat! They took us to 3 reefs and we spent an hour on pretty beach on Ko Rok. Two of the reefs were incredible, we saw tons of colorful fish and coral 🐠🪸

Ko Rok was the best snorkeling either of us have ever done and Ko Haa was an amazing site surrounded by 6 uninhabited islands.

  • Back on the Scooter

    1 janvier 2025, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 86 °F

After our big morning snorkeling, we hopped on the scooter to see the “Old Town” of Ko Lanta. We’re a bit scared from the pork of doom, so we opted for pizza!

A fun note is that gas is sold by most stores with a stand from glass water/booze bottles. A little gal around 10 years old ran out of her mom’s store and helped us fill up the scooter!

We ended the night at a tiki bar on the beach with live music and a fire show. Fire shows are pretty popular and this is the 3rd we’ve stumbled upon. It was the best one so far! The performers very young and super talented. The youngest was 9! The video included is the finale.

  • Off to Bangkok

    2 janvier 2025, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

An easy travel day! We decided to drive to the airport instead of taking the long ferry. We got lucky with the car ferry and our driver was a Indy 500 racer so we made the 2-2.5 hour drive in an 1.5 hours!

Our hotel was in a perfect spot for us to explore the Chinatown neighborhood of Bangkok. It’s known for great Chinese/Thai fusion food. We opted for Dim Sum and cocktails after!

  • Best Dinner Ever

    3 janvier 2025, Thaïlande ⋅ ☀️ 86 °F

To celebrate nearing the end of an amazing trip, we went to a Michelin star restaurant! It was called INDDEE, a modern Indian restaurant. We loved each dish and drink pairings, but the stories that went along with each plate and drink made it an incredible experience. The menu is a journey across India that highlights different regions, histories, and ingredients. One of the most fun courses was the Bread Intermission. There was a separate bread menu and you could pick from six options! We loved the chef’s play on classic Indian street foods, which were the opening courses.

Claire had a view of the open kitchen and loved seeing the chefs put together each dish! We enjoyed 17 courses and were there for 4.5 hours. We were lucky to get a table, only 18 people can eat there a night!

  • Canal Tour & Muy Thai Fights

    4 janvier 2025, Thaïlande ⋅ ☁️ 86 °F

Packed up our bags for our last day in Thailand! We leave our hotel with nowhere to stay tonight as we fly out at 2am.

We stated the day by exploring Chinatown and going to two restaurants that Andy suggested. First was a noodle place tucked in an alley, the second was his favorite dim sum place!

After, we joined a canal tour on a longtail boat! Old Bangkok used to use the canals for transport, unfortunately it was a bit mediocre. After we went to Khao Son Road, a popular neighborhood, for shopping and a Thai massage!

We took a tuktuk to the stadium for Muy Thai fights. Surprisingly, this was a highlight of the trip! It didn’t hurt that it was free beer night 🍻 We learned all about Muy Thai and watched 7 fights. It was a great night!

After we went to the airport and our flight was delayed so we got another massage! We loved our trip and are excited to travel back to SE Asia someday.
