    5 Miles & 5 Courses

    January 18 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 36 °F

    Great first day! We landed at 8:30am. Fun bonus was sitting next to some Bills fans as we all watched the playoff game! Sadly, Josh got robbed in OT ☹️

    After landing, the train connected us easily to the city center and we settled into a cute coffee shop until the Airbnb was ready.

    We met Phillip for a private “third reich tour” and he led us around to spots with significance to WWII and rise of the Nazi party. The second picture is a removed Nazi Eagle symbol. The party was founded in Munich so he walked us through the origin and how this changed the city. In total, we walked 5 miles in the cold with him! 💪

    We stopped off for beer at Phil’s recommendation then got a little too tired to trudge onward. We grabbed a quick nap then made our reservation at Gasthaus Waltz for a 5-course dinner to reward our big travel day! 😋    Read more

    Meandering Munich 🥨🍺

    January 19 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 41 °F

    We must be getting older because we were tired this morning! Got up late, but appreciated the extra few hours of sleep. We stopped right away for some popular fried dough (we tried all 3 😄) and coffee!

    After walking and shopping a bit, we headed to the English Gardens for a beer and walk. That beer turned into a full crawl! We walked 5 miles home and stopped at 7 different places for food and drinks. Claire’s favorite was veal stroganoff and Grant’s was the nurmberger sausages! It was chilly outside but each place was so cozy. It made for a nice, slow day.    Read more

    Munich WWII Museum

    January 20 in Germany ⋅ ☀️ 39 °F

    Up & at ‘em to take advantage of a free half-day!

    We stopped by a cozy, vintage breakfast place and had a FEAST 🥓 🥨 The waiter was a saint and informed Grant that you’re meant to remove the the skin off the white sausages because it tastes bad! We would have definitely just eaten them as is 🤷🏻 haha

    After breakfast, we visited a WWII museum. It walked through a chronological timeline of the Nazis rise to power post-WWI, the party’s activities specifically in Munich, and discussed how this ideology affects Munich today.

    With much to process, we walked to the Viktualienmarkt for lunch at a soup stand and picked out some snacks for our road trip tomorrow!

    We both started working at 3pm (to midnight 😴) and are excited for our drive to the mountains tomorrow 😄    Read more

    Zooming The Autobahn 🇩🇪

    January 21 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 32 °F

    See ya later Munich 👋

    We picked up our car and got upgraded to an Audi 😎 We hit the road and unexpectedly found ourselves on the Autobahn with no speed limits!! Any guesses to Grant’s top speed??

    Everything was smooth crossing into Austria and Italy. Grant enjoyed driving through the mountain towns and Claire enjoyed watching the back of her eyelids 😂

    We made it to our town, Campitello Di Fassa! We are happy with our pick and the major ski lift is out our back door 🎿 A super nice ski shop owner set us up so we are ready to rip tomorrow!!

    We worked the second half of the day in our little room, but we are free birds the rest of the trip 🦅    Read more
