The run home, and some gems.
June 6 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C
As our Vecto shake-down trip slowly winds towards home, we’ve spent the past week heading south-east through a collection of places that remind us just how diverse and surprising Western Australia can be.
Our route took us through Carnarvon, Geraldton, Mt Magnet, Kalannie and finally Elachbutting Rock. The larger centres like Carnarvon and Geraldton offered all the conveniences and comforts you’d expect, but it was the smaller towns that really captured our attention. Rustic caravan parks, friendly locals, plenty of character, and often for less than half the cost. Sometimes it’s the places you know the least about that leave the biggest impression.
And then there was Elachbutting Rock.
What a magnificent spot.
Massive granite formations rising from the Wheatbelt landscape, hidden caves, rock waves, spectacular sunsets and endless skies. It feels remote, peaceful and wonderfully untouched. We spent our day exploring the rock formations and our evenings sitting back, watching the colours change as the sun slipped below the horizon. It’s one of those places that quietly works its way into your memory and stays there.
Along the way we’ve continued putting the Vecto through its paces. Every trip teaches us something new and this one has been no different. The good news is that the van has been outstanding. We’ve found a handful of minor things that need attention, but that’s exactly why we set out on this shake-down adventure in the first place. Nothing major, just a few tweaks and adjustments before the big one.
And now, somewhat reluctantly, we’re heading home.
There’s plenty to organise over the coming weeks as we prepare for the next chapter. Servicing, adjustments, packing, planning and all the little jobs that come before a much bigger adventure.
This trip started as a test run.
It ended as another reminder of why we love travelling.
The ocean, the outback, the Wheatbelt, small towns, friendly faces, campfires and unexpected discoveries. Western Australia really is an incredible place to roam.
Next stop: home.
After that… The Lap. 🇦🇺Read more
