Dang That Dung

Mackinac Island is known for the horse drawn carriages. There is no car traffic on the island, not even delivery trucks.

Everywhere you go you see the horses, either saddled or pulling carriages. And everywhere they go, they leave behind a trail. A trail of dung. I am not complaining. I simply found it noteworthy.

The island also has a large number of people cleaning the dung up in real time. They are on foot, pushing clean up carts and riding bicycle carts, stopping every few feet to clean up the most recent trail. But even with that . . . . Watch your step.

Maybe watch out for the brown puddles too. Ehhh, yeah, maybe all the puddles.

Seriously, it is not a problem but the dung is ever present. It made me think of the people that romanticize the old west. Who cleaned up behind the horses then.Read more
