• Across the Anti-Meridian

    As our longitude approached 180°W (the anti-meridian) I wondered when our east-west location would change to 179° E. Well it was today and I think I was the only one who noticed it! Looking at Wikipedia I find that the concept of a prime meridian (and its associated anti-meridian) has been around during the Greeks, Egyptians and of course the Europeans. Each culture wanted it to pass through their country. Since the Brits were dominant when the final decision was made (1884) the prime meridian goes through the Royal Observatory in Greenwich England.
