  • Game of Thrones

    July 14, 2016 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Time for our Game of Thrones tour.

The tour was so much fun we could place ourselves in some of the scenes so easily. Our tour guide was excellent and gave us some very special insights into the series as she was one of the main extras and played the part of most of the girls including Brienne.

We actually walked the "Walk of Shame" starting at the top of the staircase. Even told that the crowd in the series was actually quite small so the people just kept moving to make it look like lots of people, we need to see that episode again and pick a person to see how many times they are in the crowd.

The Red keep is outside the walled city so it was necessary to take a short walk up the hill to the Red Keep again told lots of stories and explained how the crew cover and hide things which should not be in view. Apparently lots of flowers are used to cover items which should not be there.

  • Hole in the Wall

    July 16, 2016 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Today was a rest day. We have been so busy we thought we would take it easy for a change and feel like we are actually on holidays rather than sightseers. Rest day to us means another walk and wander around Old Town . We also found out about a bar "Hole in the Wall" that was definitely worth a try, a very pleasant day indeed. We watched lots of interesting things in the water from old ships, submarines to people jumping in the water from the rocks and trying to get back to the rocks in the swell.Read more

  • Beach Club

    July 17, 2016 in Croatia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Another rest day this time in the sun for most of the day. This is actually a private beach so we had to pay 100 Euros for deck chairs on a pebble beach. The beaches are nothing like ours but the water was nice. We noticed an empty day bed with a cover so we decided we would ditch the deck chairs and take a cabana. The cabana was lovely nice cushions and shaded with room to put your things. What we found out later was that we should have paid another 100 Euro for the day bed but no one picked that up, perhaps because we looked old and needed something more comfortable.

It was a lovely day resting reading, eating and swimming this is what relaxing holidays are meant to be like.

After walking around for a while we went back to the apartment to get ready for dinner and to confirm the place of pickup for our next day excursion. The pickup point is the Meteorological pole which has been in the same spot since 1884 when it was given to the city by Adolf Holzer. It is still used to this day to record weather conditions in the city including the temperature and air pressure.

Dinner was very nice it was recommended by friends and our driver.

  • Simply Divine

    July 19, 2016 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The park is famous for its lakes arranged in cascades. There are 16 lakes which are the confluence of several small rivers and subterranean karst rivers. The lakes are all interconnected and follow the water flow. They are separated by natural dams of travertine, which is deposited by the action of moss, algae, and bacteria. The particularly sensitive travertine barriers are the result of an interplay between water, air and plants. The encrusted plants and bacteria accumulate on top of each other, forming travertine barriers which grow at the rate of about 1 cm per year. The protected area extends over 296.85 square kilometres.Read more

  • What an incredible place

    July 19, 2016 in Croatia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

The lakes are renowned for their distinctive colors, ranging from azure to green, grey or blue. The colors change constantly depending on the quantity of minerals or organisms in the water and the angle of sunlight. To ensure the water stays as clear and untouched you are not allowed to put your hands in the water.

Today was incredible we walked for hours around the many beautiful blue lakes, took a boat ride over crystal clear water and took in the amazing view from the top of this incredible National Park.

We are tired and sad about leaving such a peaceful place but I guess all good things have to come to and end sometime.

  • Hotel Krone Zurich

    July 21, 2016 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

What can I say about this Hotel very small with a very interesting view of the street and apartments across the road. Just as well it is close to transport. Issue is we are using this Hotel as a base while we are in Switzerland so we will be backwards and forwards over the next week.

I think we might just have to ask for an upgrade on our return.
