    Glaciers

    The panorama is among the finest in the world. The views take in the Monte Rosa with Switzerland’s highest peak Dufourspitze, 4,634 m and the second-largest glacier in the Alps. The Gorner Glacier and a total of 29 mountains above 4,000 m and the Matterhorn in all its glory.

    So hard to stop taking photo's the scenery is sensational hard to work where to look. If we could ski it would be so tempting to take a hike and ski down to Zermatt.    Leggi altro

    Lunch with a View

    Starting to get hungry so we walk up the summit to the Hotel at Europe’s highest altitude for lunch .

    We sat outside under blankets to take in the view of the Glaciers, mountains and of course the Matterhorn.

    Lunch was very nice, a fondue and an Aperol Spitz. When in switzerland you must dine like the Swiss.

    Abu Dhabi

    Today was basically a flying day. It was a 6hr flight from Zurich to Abu Dhabi. Flight was ok we just watched movies so the time passed quickly even with the huge guy behind me constantly banging the seat with his knees and feet under my seat.

    We are staying at Shangi La Qaryat Al Beri again we love this Hotel it is so special.    Leggi altro

    National Auto Museum

    Today we went to Jess and Greg's place for morning tea, Sally also came. Once we visited it was time for a road trip. The first stop was the Car Museum. The Museum is 45 kilometres south of Abu Dhabi and holds around 228 cars belonging to the Royal family HH Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. Huge collection of off-road vehicles and classic American cars, the Sheikh's Mercedes rainbow collection and the world's largest truck and an airplane just for fun.Leggi altro

    Road Trip

    Still on the road, Jess is driving so we can sit and relax in the back of the car taking in the view of sand, sand and more sand and occasional camels.

    Liwa is about 97.6 km south of the Persian Gulf coast and 150 km SSW of Abu Dhabi and stretches about 100 km east-west along an arch curved to the north and consists of some 50 villages.Leggi altro

    Date Festival

    The festival celebrates the date harvest and the agricultural riches of Abu Dhabi as one of the most important pillars of authentic Emirati heritage.

     It is also a business gathering opportunity for local farmers. The Festival was very interesting, Sally arranged for a guide to take us around so we could obtain extra knowledge of what goes on at the festival.

    The festival is held over a 20,000 square meters area and hosts every year between 60,000 to 70,000 visitors who can enjoy multiple artistic and cultural activities such as traditional Emirati souq, art workshops, and competitions, including best dates, lemons and mangoes.    Leggi altro

    Moroccan for Dinner

    After having a great visit with Jess, Greg and Sally we decided on having dinner at the complex next to the hotel. We were the only people in the resturant and the staff said we were also the first non Emeratti to eat in this new resturant, not sure why as we really enjoyed our meal.Leggi altro

    Relaxing

    The morning started like many other days on our holiday a huge breakfast and a walk around the Hotel Complex. No plans today until late afternoon when Hannah is coming to collect us and take us to her apartment and then dinner.Leggi altro

    Last Day

    Today was another relaxing starting with breakfast then taking in the rays around the pool again for a few hours.

    We have a 10.00 pm flight tonight but the Hotel arranged for us to have a 8.30pm checkout which basically gave us an extra day. The extra hours made it so much better to take our time packing and walking around the complex near the Hotel.Leggi altro

    12 Countries in 52 Nights

    Well we are now at the airport all checked in and awaiting our flight home. This holiday was so much fun, we saw so much and caught up with friends.

    We strolled the streets of some lovely little villages, cruised the River Rhine, saw the mountain peaks of the Matterhorn and fullfilled a number of bucket list items.Leggi altro

    Flying into Sydney

    Home

    Back in Sydney after a long flight.

    Now home and back into the usual routine of making breakfast, lunch and dinner and making our bed, washing and housework.

    The only thing good about a holiday ending is planning the next holiday and catching up with family.Leggi altro
