  • Gale Lighthouse

    Galle Lighthouse is an onshore lighthouse. Built in 1848 by the British. The original structure was destroyed by a fire 1930. The current white concrete tower was erected 1939.

    Dinner tonight was at Yazu an Asian themed restaurant playing rap music. Dinner was delicious. Mocktails our chosen beverage and a variety of dim sum, chicken and mushroom bao as well as a signature chicken dish and finished with a salted caramel tart and a sorbet.Read more

  • Colombo Lotus Tower

    The Lotus Tower also known as the Colombo Lotus Tower, stands at a height of 351.5 m. It has become a symbolic landmark for the country. It is the tallest self supported structure in South Asia and the second tallest overall. The lotus shaped structure serves various purposes, including communication and observation, as well as leisure facilities. The estimated cost of construction was approximately US$113 million.Read more

  • Seema Malaka Temple

    Seema Malaka is a Buddhist temple and mainly used for meditation and rest, rather than for worship. Situated in the Beira Lake, the temple was originally constructed in the late 19th century.

    The original structure slowly sank into the water in 1970s. In 1976, Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa was brought in to redesign and construct the temple, which stands today.

    The temple is in the middle of the Beira Lake, and the design was inspired by the ancient monasteries in forests of Anuradhapura and Ritigala. The temple is constructed on three platforms over water, which are connected to the mainland and with each other by pontoon bridges.

  • Independence Square

    Independence Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the country’s independence from British rule on February 4, 1948.

    The hall is located in Independence Square (formerly Torrington Square) in the Cinnamon Gardens district of Colombo, the site where the formal ceremony marking the start of self-rule took place, including the opening of the first parliament by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester.Read more

  • Pettah Market

    Pettah Market, also known as the Manning Market, is located in the heart of Colombo’s commercial district. It’s one of the oldest and most famous markets in Sri Lanka and is bordered by the Colombo Fort area and the bustling Colombo Harbour. Spread over several streets and alleys, Pettah is a maze of activity, where each street is dedicated to a specific category of goods, from jewelry to electronics, clothing, and spices.

    Problem was the markets are not open today, so the Pettah Market experience was for us only seeing a few stalls, but we did manage to purchaser a few souvenirs though.

  • Negombo for Dinner

    Shanuka thought driving to Negombo from Colombo for dinner would fill in some time before our very late flight. Fish and Chips is where we had lunch right back at the start of our holiday and tonight we are back at the same restaurant for our last meal in Sri Lanka.Read more

  • At the Airport

    We are now at the airport waiting for our flight. We are currently landslide for 1.5 hours waiting on the gate to be opened. Once we have dropped our bags we can go through immigration and go to a lounge for another few hours. Our flight is 1am.Read more
