  • Quick pics from Guam

    20 de octubre de 2019, Guam ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

We rented a car and drove Guam today. Gorgeous! It’s like an impoverished chilled out Hawaii. Not only did they also have chickens everywhere but cows on leashes in yards and random packs of wild dogs. Serene private beaches! I’m downloading some pics before I lose service and I’ll update with a more detailed post when I have service next. Next stop, Malaysia!
Spoiler alert: WORLDS BIGGEST K-MART! 🤘🏼

  • Philippine islands

    23 de octubre de 2019, Philippine Sea ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Today we are passing through a large number of islands, big and small (I heard over 7,000?!), as well as fishing boats, shipping boats, etc. The Very pretty! The water is so still and blue. Its two days before we arrive at Kota Kinabalu Malaysia. The weather has amazing, a warm 89 degrees and sunny. Though i attempted nighttime swimming, I wouldn’t recommend it. I froze in the water and even more when I got out of the water. I was determined to watch an evening movie (The Legend of Tarzan) from the pool. I toughed it out but it took a warm shower and 30min or so time warm back up.
Lots of people on ship are from these islands and are homesick while passing through them all.

  • Kota Kinabalu Malysia Sabah

    25 de octubre de 2019, Malasia ⋅ ⛅ 32 °C

We went to the zoological park where they had the endangered Boreno elephants as well as a multitude of other native animals. It was cool. After that we went to a cultural village to tour types of houses, etc. very cool but so very hot and humid. They were selling traditional snacks here that included live sago worms, etc.Leer más

  • Ship galley tour

    26 de octubre de 2019, South China Sea ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Pumping out more than 28,000 meals a day, the main kitchen (galley) is huge! They actually have 4 kitchens on board but we toured the biggest one. It’s incredible how huge it actually is! I’m attaching some pictures.Leer más

  • Halloween celebrations day.

    26 de octubre de 2019, South China Sea ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

So, apparently most everyone on the ship except us dressed up to celebrate Halloween tonight. The celebration included open bar for about 5 hours before dinner!! (Whoop whoop!) Terry briefly stole our friend Karen’s Japanese fan during dinner. Ed and Betta dressed up as Mr Clean and some mid evil woman. I also found a couple snaps of us chilling in the pool, bad pics but it’s all I have for you right now. Tomorrow morning we will be in Vietnam!!Leer más

  • Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City

    27 de octubre de 2019, Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

    Crazy place. The end. Lol.
I learned a lot about the culture here. As well as the weather. They have two seasons, rainy and dry. (Hot and hotter). It took almost 2 hours to travel from the harbor to the city. We traveled through tons of rice patties, tapioca fields, and poverty. Primary mode of transportation is via scooter. And they make up traffic laws as they go. Most of the scooters had only two people but a large percentage had children as well. Even babies laying on the handle bars. They have a helmet law for adults but children don’t have to wear them.

We went to Notre Dam Cathedral, the huge post office, Dong Kohi street, and the central market. Lunch was at one of the few nice air conditioned restaurants we found with a semi safe looking menu. At central market we tried to hide at a coffee shop with WiFi, AC, and a public bathroom. (Most of the local coffee shops are open air and filled with hammocks). Pho 2000 is the place allegedly Bill Clinton are at while he was here.

Central Market was an experience for sure. SO MANY PEOPLE, and it was necessary to literally hold my phone and money in my pocket due to pic pockets. I’m going to leave the smells to your imagination. Very aggressive sales people begging me to buy anything.

Schools here cost families $150 a month so lots of people go in educated. The wealthy people trying to get out of the country pay around 30k to try to cross the border illegally.

The motorbikes kill about 15,000 people annually.

  • Last day on boat, tomorrow Singapore!

    29 de octubre de 2019, South China Sea ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

It was a sad day saying goodbye to all our friends and to the last 24 days of luxury we have enjoyed! The staff of this did a great hosting all of us this trip. It was the first time Carnival has ever sailed to Asia and the longest trip they have ever offered, so a lot of new things were done. We had a lot of pool days on the trip and enjoyed all the new countries we were able to explore. The couples at our table were Steve & Della from LA, Ed and Metta from CO, and Karen and Davis from Iowa. All so very nice! Our server Stanimir from Bulgaria was the best one we have EVER had! He made sure I had all sort of amazing Gluten Free items for the entire trip. Tomorrow morning we will be in Singapore. It’s supposed to be beautiful (and quirky with the strange laws: gum chewing and jaywalking are two huge no-no’s along with many more!!) More fun to come!!Leer más

  • Finally in Singapore!

    30 de octubre de 2019, Singapur ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

    Beautiful. That’s all ;-).
We just got through immigration processing and caught a Grab (Asia’s version of Uber) to our hotel. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza next to the airport. There is a very intricate public transport system/trains in place (MRT) and there is a stop by our hotel. So we shall go exploring!Leer más

  • Marina Bay, Cloud Forest

    30 de octubre de 2019, China ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Public transportation here is amazing. Singapore has a terrific train line and bus service. But we STILL walked our butts off today!! Marina Bay Sands is home to the worlds longest AND tallest infinity pool!! It spans on the rooftop between three buildings. Outside the hotel is the biggest mall I’ve ever seen in my life. Though it’s been a hurdle trying to find “normal” food to eat. And fountain drinks are out of the question. The only canes beverages they have around here are canned coke, sprite, and Fanta prance. Everything else is a tea or looks weird. The only piece of food i could terry to eat I. The entire mall was a piece of cheesecake from Starbucks. So that was dinner. We sat by the marina and watched the AMAZING light show while we drank sprite and ate cheesecake. After all that we started our trip back to our hotel. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza inside the Jewel Chaing Airport. That place gets a post of its own!Leer más

  • One day in Beijing

    1 de noviembre de 2019, China ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today we arrived in Beijing and made the most of out one day here! Immigration visas took about 2 hours of our time. We opted to go see the Great Wall of China! I booked a private airport pickup with an English speaking tour guide. That was the only English speaking person wehad the luxury of communicating with today. It wasn’t like Singapore where it was “English friendly”. Here in Beijing, you better not have many questions or want incorrect answers to what they “ “thought” you said.
The Great Wall was a little cool (around 48 deg F) but with all the walking I was hot in the coat I brought. This definitely wasn’t the best thing I could have done for my knee but I’d hate to be this far and not go see it!! We also went to see the “Summer Palace”. Which was also lovely!
So here in China I feel like a circus animal. People literally stopped to stare at the 6ft tall girl. The ones that didn’t just outright ask to take a selfie with me also tried to be sneaky in taking pictures. One man come ran up beside me onto a curb I was walking beside and tried to jump to see if he could “be as tall at me”. I told his he didn’t quite make it ;-). I should have opened up a photo booth like at the fair, .25 cents a picture ;-). Haha.
We can back to this huge airport and are currently waiting patiently to board our 13hr overnight flight back to LAX. While we wait, I’m making Terry get a Chinese massage. He’ll thank me later 😬.
Next Stop, USA, real food, and English!!

  • Back to Cali!

    2 de noviembre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 11 °C

Long flight but, to my surprise, Air China has the roomiest and most comfortable planes we have been on this entire trip! The 13 hour flight brought us back to the US, to Los Angeles. We are going to spend a few days here recouping (my ankles are huge!) and visiting with Kristen before heading back to TN. We didn’t have any plans for here so we migrated to Newport Beach area after sightseeing LA the majority of the day. I enjoyed some gluten free banana walnut Carmel pancakes at Coco’s Bakery & Restraunt, they were amazing!
Today’s highlights: obviously breakfast, followed by Hollywood sign and the “Hollywood Walk of Fame”, Rodeo Dr (and all the beautiful cars!!), Beverly Hills and Bel Air, and the sea of people at the Santa Monica Pier, then the sunset from Santa Monica Beach on the way to Newport Beach.
Side note: Terry just HAD to see the “Beverly Hillbilly’s Mansion”. We looked up the address andheaded that way. It’s very well hidden from the road but a HUGE piece of property!!

  • Last days of Sunny CA

    3 de noviembre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We are in the Newport Beach/ Costa Mesa area. We drove through Hermosa Beach area, is was absolutely gorgeous. We decided to check out the Aquarium of the Pacific as well as take a Sunset Cruise out of Balboa Pier in Newport Beach. (Shout out to my bro for the tickets!) Dinner at “The Pizza Bakery” was great followed by magical handmade ice cream from world famous “Afters” ice cream. They are known for something called a #milkybun. It’s a doughnut type pastry (no hole) with ice cream of your choice (he chose malted milk chocolate plus a topping!) in the center. It looked amazing but Terry said it was delicious yet “a bit much”. I had the French Toast Cinnamon Churro flavor with Captain Crunch topping. It was incredible, solid choice for sure!! This was the last lazy night before a time crunch to make our 1 pm flight at LAX due to Traffic!! We should have probably skipped our lunch stop at “Ike’s Love & Sandwiches”. I had a GF tuna sub there and terry had some kind of steak sandwich. It was totally worth it in my opinion! Though it led to being the last ones to board the flight and being a bit cramped on the 3.5 hr return fight!!Leer más

  • Back in TN!

    4 de noviembre de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ 🌙 6 °C

Flew into Nashville. Decided to stay the night since we are pooped. I have apparently become a “Hertz Gold” member because of this journey. So with my car rental I got to walk around the lot and choose whatever vehicle I wanted and just drive off. (Though I probably put more thought into the chops live than was really necessary). We ended up in a Toyota Highlander. We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express Airport location tonight. Dinner at Bar-B-Cutie and I have no doubts we will be swinging by Shipleys Doughnuts on the way out tomorrow!! Lol.Leer más
