• Tropical Skywalk and Herberton

    23. juni 2024, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

On our way to Port Douglas we did the Mamu Tropical Skywalk. Rosie enjoyed finding the different trees in the booklet and walked all the way to the lookout tower at the end. It was really cool to be walking on platforms up in the trees and looking down on huge tree ferns from above.
Apparently the area was dense forest, but after a cyclone that knocked down many large trees the government decided to put in the walkway. And now people can experience the rainforest for themselves.
After the skywalk we went to Herberton for lunch and to visit the historic village there. The historic village had a 'garage' with lots of old cars. Rosie got to sit in one, as well as ride on an old rocking horse in the 'toy shop'. There were so many old items there including washing machines (!) and steam engines. We watched an interesting film about how mining shaped the town. Had a walk over the pretty river at the village and saw lots of the old tractors before heading off to Port Douglas.
