    Tienda Musea Tula (Slave Museum)

    17 janvier 2020, Curacao ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

We visited the slave museum. We learned a lot about this horrible period of history. This museum is in the site of a plantation where they were able to grow corn, sweet potatoes, and pumpkins. Unfortunately they no longer get enough rain to grow much of anything except cactus. Interestingly, Curacao was kind of the holding area for a great many slaves, held here after being kidnapped from their native homeland, then sold from here to masters throughout the Caribbean.

Despite it all the slaves sang and danced to try to bring comfort to themselves, hand making numerous musical instruments. The one picture of me turning a crank was an amazing player piano like music box. It belonged to the master of course, and a slave turned the crank for their enjoyment.
