Even after a decent rest day yesterday, I still felt like I needed another day or so to fully recover. The news that Jack would be joining me sooner than expected and arriving in Rome that night only encouraged me to take it easy. I knew the days would probably get longer and busier once he arrived, so I decided to make the most of the quiet while I could. I spent the day wandering around Rome again, this time making my way through the Villa Borghese gardens. It was a nice change of pace and a peaceful place to spend the day, although the gardens were absolutely massive. Given that I was still trying to rest, I didn’t have much interest in walking the entire thing, so I only saw a portion of it. It was interesting to explore, but because it is mostly a huge park, there wasn’t a whole lot of opportunity to learn about what I was actually looking at.

Apart from that, I did almost nothing all day. I went back to my apartment, relaxed, and waited for Jack to arrive by train.

Eventually, I headed to the station to collect him and walked him back to the hostel. Although we were both booked into the same place, Jack ended up being put in the actual hostel we had originally booked, while I had been transferred to the completely different one. At the time, I thought I had gotten the shit end of the deal.

Turns out, I was very wrong.

The original hostel was somehow even worse—and much, much busier. So, for once, getting moved elsewhere actually worked out in my favour.
