    I visited the area which is most associated with the Beatles — the Cavern Quarter which surrounds the Cavern Club where they played almost 300 times. The guide explained that the lights would go out randomly in the basement where the stage was, so the Beatles had a song ready for whenever that happened — something Paul wrote when he was 14 which just required a piano. In the darkness, they would play the song and get a sing-a-long started. It became well known among their fans in Liverpool but it remained unreleased for a long time. When they did finally release it, the song went to number one in the UK, with the people of Liverpool knowing the words from the start. That was “When I’m Sixty-Four.”Read more
