    Travel Day

    Walk from Dad's to the airport went well, no rain and wind. Took 3 hours. It was a bit stop start at first cos something was rattling in my bag. What a pain in the arse. Flight to Paris was only 1h 30m then 1h 20m to Biarritz. Shared a taxi from the airport with 3 Irish folk and an Aussie. Booked into accommodation in St Jean Pied de Port. Gite Beilari. €43 for bed breakfast and communal evening meal. I'm in a small shared dorm. Worryingly the room is called Heizea which means wind in Basque.Read more

    St Jean Pied de Port to Orisson

    Shit sleep last night, hopefully better tonight. Had a wee walk around St Jean, went for brekkie and got my Credencial from the Pilgrim's Office which I need to get stamped every day as proof of walking the distance I hope I'm going to walk.
    Bought walking poles in the hiking shop. The owner was asking all about Celtic...had a Celtic badge on the till. He was at Real Sociedad v Celtic in 1983

    Orisson to Roncesvalles

    Had a great communal meal last night in Orisson. Soup, a pork hing wi vegetables and Basque cake. Was in bed and sleeping for 9pm. I had a young Korean girl in the bunk above me so I tried desperately not to break wind but alas, this was in vain. Had brekkie at 7am. The only food/drink option en route today was a van at the side of the road....ideal for a coffee and sandwich. Just arrived at my accommodation and I'm having soup before I head up to my room. The queue at the Albergue (hostel) is massive so I reckon some folk will be having to walk on to next village.Read more

    Roncesvalles to Zubiri

    Had brekkie at 7 with a South Korean family and left Roncesvalles at 7.40am. Amazing walk today, mostly flat but with a treacherous downhill to finish. 22km, forgot to start the relive app so don't have that video.

    Arrived into accommodation (Pension Usoa) at 3pm just in time for the Celtic game. Managed to watch the whole game on my phone. Wifey that owned the accommodation kept laughing cos someone from Scotland could speak Spanish. An Indian girl also checked in who spoke no Spanish and I translated 😂 Her name is Seemeen........ Twin room ensuite was only €27. Incredible value, cracking room, great WiFi.

    Had a set meal thing for €17 including wine. Going to list the folk that are in our solo travellers 'group' so I don't forget in future.....

    Slept pretty well considering I had a fuckin church bell chiming 3 times an hour right next to me. Brekkie at 7, started walking at 8. Weather ideal again,.overcast with bits of sunshine. Took the river route into Pamplona which took longer but was great. Hotel really good. Heading out to meet the others at Cafe Iruña on the main square which is really close. It'll be the last night we're all together as we'll all be staying in different places.Read more

    Pamplona to Puente la Reina

    Woke up late at 7.30am😂 Walked through Pamplona at 8ish. Had a tortilla de patata at Cizur Menor and there must have been illegal substances in it cos I absolutely smashed it walking up the Alto de Perdon at high speed. Had a 2 hour 'lunch' at Uterga. Quality lentil soup and Estrella Galicia.
    Wasn't walking with the group I'm now in but spoke to folk on the way from Brazil, Venezuela, Germany, Austria, South Africa, Englandshire, New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Colombia. 😂
    24 km today. Was absolutely easy. Legs feeling so strong. I could have walked another 10k.

    Had a great meal in Bar Aloa. €15 a head including 2 bottles of red between 5 of us. To start I had scrambled eggs with prawns and green beans. Main course was tuna steak in a spicy tomato sauce. There was me, Aleta from South Africa, Dino from Hamburg, Saleem from Englandshire, Gabriel from Rome.
    Don't know how the Bar could do that food for such a great price.......same old Bar Aloa....always cheatin.....    Read more

    23.5 km today. Walked most of the day with Aleta. Stopped at Mañeru for brekkie after an hour and had the usual coffee and tortilla combo. Stopped for a drink at Villatuerta later.
    Really cold wind today and the rain almost came on but I continue to be really lucky with the weather.
    I've started seeing fields of grapevines.... that's going to increase in the next few days as I reach La Absolutely freezin tonight and I've got shorts and sandals on. Found a launderette (oh no, not the launderette) and gave most of my gear a good wash. Los Arcos tomorrow 😊    Read more

    My credencial is starting to fill up. I need to get one stamp per day...usually from the accommodation I'm staying in. I need to show that in Santiago as proof of the walk in order to get my Compostela. You can also get stamps in restaurants, cafes, bars, churches etc.Read more

    Estella to Los Arcos

    Woke up at 5.50am and realised I'd lost all my Laundrette washed clothes and waterproof jacket. Managed to figure out where the restaurant was from last night and that it should open at 9.30am. Found a Decathlon nearby in case I wasn't able to get my clothes and jacket back but it was all ok. Meant I didn't leave til 10am and the Camino was really quiet. Was great walking alone. Got to Los Arcos at 3ish. Great room tonight. 28km to Logroño (jealous Dom?) tomorrow so going to start early. Got a room for one night but Saturday was too pricey so moving on to Ventosa for a night.Read more
