• Traveling north to Isola Maddalena

    September 27, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Before leaving Oliena, we visited the springs of Su Gologone. Very clear (and cold) water comes up from a depth of more than 130m.
A little stop on San Teodoro beach (Cala Girgolu) and then heading to Palau. A little ferry to us then to the island of Maddalena, where we had our last Airbnb house.Read more

  • From the South to the hills of Sardinia

    September 25, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Today morning it was time again to pack up our bags and move on with our journey along the East Coast. However, first, taking pictures of a spectacular sunrise right in front of our door.
On the way to the hills, we stopped several times to visit different beaches (Costa Rei, Arbatax) and let Awen enjoy the water. In the pass we had a great view on the Gorrupo canyon. And finally, we arrived at our destination for the next 2 days. A little country house in the middle of nowhere. And this Airbnb had free homemade organic wine, olive oil, fruits and vegetables...and they had two horses in the garden.Read more

  • Chia Beaches

    September 23, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Getting up early, enjoy the day while it's not too hot yet and then doing a nap turned out to be a good decision. Not only were we able to enjoy a beautiful sunrise, but also having the whole beach to ourselves. What more do we want?Read more

  • From the west coast to the South

    September 22, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Before heading South we visited the archeological site of Tharros. After just one day of Camping, being back in another Airbnb felt like great luxury. Ok, the Airbnb house was indeed an amazing place near the beach, under some palm trees and with a beautiful veranda. A little quite oase away from people with only the noise of the waves in the distance.Read more

  • Wild camping on Mari Ermi beach

    September 21, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Leaving the nice comfortable Airbnb house we continued our journey around the Island southwards to Oristano. First though, we visited the old town of Alghero and a little south Bosa.
Several hours later, we arrived on the white sandy beach of Mari Ermi. And, we could see for the first time some flamencos. The night in the Campster was a bee windy one. Despite the beautiful view, having sand everywhere (in the car, in the hair, in the clothes) is not really a pleasure. And so, the next morning we needed a good bath in the sea to get rid of all that sand.Read more

  • Capo Falcone - the north west

    September 20, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Our second day on Sardinia was used to discover the places around us. A trip to the beach, a walk through some small towns and enjoying a sunset at the capo falcone. In the evening, some geckos came and visited us (and helped us to fight the quite agressiv moskitos.Read more

  • Sassari - the north west

    September 19, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

After getting out of the Ferry, it was time to go for a walk with Awen and let him discover his new environment. However, it wasn't easy to find a clean piece of earth...This came as a shock to us. The plastic, glass and other rubbish along the street wasn't what we had expected.
After having checked-in in our Airbnb house (a lovely house in the middle of a small orange farm), we went with Awen to a so called "dog friendly beach". Awen could enjoy the clear water and running around on the long almost deserted sand beach. Back home, we all needed a nice long nap, before heading out to enjoy a beautiful sunset at the capo caccia.

  • Taking the ferry

    September 18, 2019 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Driving to Genoa and taking the ferry with Awen caused some concerns beforehand. "How would the check in with Awen go? Would he bark all night long? Would he do his business in the cabin?”
Well, my worries were not justified at all. All went very well, Awen not only had pleasure, he was very brave and could hold his business until we had arrived in Sardinia.
The problem was more to find our way through Genoa and the GPS was no help at all. Luckily, we were early enough and even had some time for a walk in the beach near Genoa and let Awen get a first taste of the sea.

  • Valle Verzasca

    August 1, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

I'm now adding a few more places to this album, despite not having done the trip this time, but in previous weekends.
The first was the weekend in Valle Verzasca, where we spent a weekend exploring the little streams and valleys at the end of Valle Verzasca.Read more

  • Nufenenpass

    August 1, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After visiting Aisha, Awen's sister, in Wallis and going for a small walk, we took our final trip home crossing the Nufenenpass. A last hike up the mountain and searching some cristals before heading back home.Read more

  • 3 passes in 1 day

    July 31, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We spent the night on the Glaubenbühlpass, the connection between Entlebuch/Sörenberg and Brünig/Lungern. As some thunderstorms were predicted, I used the cover for the van, which non only kept me try, but also warm. The following morning we did a nice little walk on the shoulder of the hill before heading for our second pass, the Brünig. As the weather still was very cloudy, we did a small walk on the Aare canyon in Meiringen. Unfortunately, on the 3rd pass, the Grimselpass, which I had planned to spend the night, the weather was so bad (8C and thick fog prevented us from going on a nice walk), we just spent an hour on the top so Awen could run around the snow.
Down in Wallis, we decided to stay on a small camping place. Very basic and quite, with a lot of nature and water around. Perfect for us and great for doing a little walk in the forest.

  • An afternoon on the beach

    July 30, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

This afternoon I was visiting Awen's parents and sister and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon on a little private beach on the shores of lake Thun. Four Border Collies swimming, running, playing for hours, none was tired. (Except Pelé, who is now 11 years old and needs a few minutes break after an hour playing).Read more

  • Justital

    July 30, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Our morning walk took us to the cute Justital, a small valley near Sigriswil. At the end of the valley, there's a small farm that serves local cheese and milk. The perfect place to enjoy local breakfast.Read more

  • Oberer Gurnigel

    July 29, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Since we could not do any SUP, we decided to move on to our next destination, the Gantrisch Nature Park. We parked the car at an amazing location with a beautiful view over Thun and the lake of Thun. But first, it was time for our second hike of the day, up to the Oberer Gurnigel, a little hill with a fantastic view over the region.Read more

  • Schwarzsee

    July 29, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

After we were chased away by a farmer and his goats at the Gantrisch Lake, we decided to go to the near place of Schwarzsee. A nice little tour around the lake made a nice morning walk and gave Awen the chance to swim. Since the weather did not get better and the sun kept hiding behind clouds, the SUP had to remain in the car for once.Read more

  • Bucheggberg

    July 27, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

It does not always need to be a famous mountain lake or a stunning pass. Sometimes an ordinary walk in the typical swiss country side leads to the discovery of the beauty in little things. This 2 hours walk through forest, fields and along little streams had everything to offer than the big mountain areas.Read more

  • Wägitalersee

    July 26, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

A little mountain lake in the Canton of Schwyz was our next destination. Since there was no way I was able to walk uphill with all my blisters, I decided to do a "flat" hike around the lake of Wägital. The advantages of being early birds (yes, Awen gets up at 05:30) is that we we were the first people on the lake and temperatures were just above 25C. Perfect to swim and enjoy some sun.
In the afternoon we passed along the Sihl lake (and did some SUP) and then to the town of Schwyz. Since heavy thunderstorms were predicted, we decided to "visit" Roland to enjoy a nice, long shower.

  • Maloja and Flüelapass

    July 25, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Down in the valley, it was time to use the Paddle! We decided, despite the strong wind, to go for a short trip on the water. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bad idea. Not only was it very difficult to come back, but out in the water the paddle suddenly broke. With effort and after quite some time we eventually returned to the entry spot. After enjoying a nice lunch on the board of the lake, our trip continued to St. Moritz, Zernez and ended on the Flüelapass, where we spent the night.Read more
