After a quick visit to the bay of Morbihan and to see the salt garden, we left the coast and headed inland to the forest Brocéliande. As per legend, this forest is the place the story of Merlin originated. Yes, it was not in England, the English apparently took the character and used it in the King Arthur story. Our final stop of this trip brought us to La Gacilly, a little artistic village and the birth place of Yves Rocher. With a delicious organic dinner ended our little holiday in Bretagne, a very nice experience.Read more

    Sunset at Pointe de Pen-Hir

    October 12, 2017 in France

Like this morning, I was very lucky with the weather. After all day long rain and fog, the rain stopped around 1h before the sunset. So, I took my gear, a windbreaker and a hot tea à waited for that sun to go down. It was worth the patience. Just a few minutes before the sun touched the water, the clouds opened up and changed the sky into a beautiful orange and blue. Absolutely great. My first sunset on the Atlantic Ocean.Read more

    Sunrise at Pointe de Pen-Hir

    October 12, 2017 in France

Finally, the weather report announced 1 hour of no rain for the sunrise. So, I had to use this rare chance to get some nice pictures of the Pointe de Pen-Hir. That was a good choice. Soon after, rain and clouds moved in and reduced the chance for nice pictures.

    Etappe 4 - Roscoff to Camaret-sur-Mer

    October 11, 2017 in France

Lighthouse day. Visiting several lighthouses on our travel from Roscoff to Camaret-sur-Mer was very high on my priority list. We had no blue sky, but some nice and interesting cloud formations, that made the view somehow more interesting. The first stop was at the Kermorvan lighthouse, where big waves crashed on land. Being there early in the morning enabled us to avoid other people at the lighthouse in order to take some nice pictures. The second stop was at the lighthouse Petit Minou, just outside of Brest. After a driving through Brest and the regional Park d'Armorique we arrived in Camaret-sur-Mer, a little fishing village. The afternoon was used to discover the area with our Bikes.Read more

    Île de Batz

    October 10, 2017 in France

Today we discovered the little Island just off the coast from Roscoff. We brought our Bikes with us and did the coastal trail of around 10km. My first time to ride bike on sand.... On the island some beautiful beaches were awaiting us (a bit too windy and cold to swim, but at least the feets got a bath). While enjoying the soft sand, a little seal appeared in front of us and started to play with some algues. In the late afternoon we returned back to our hotel and enjoying a nice warm tea.Read more

Our journey around the cost lead us to the lighthouse of Ploumencac'h. Despite some heavy clouds could we see the lighthouse and its surroundings, the red rocks with their strange shapes. In Roscoff we had a beautiful little room with view on the sea where we could observe the huge tides.

  • Day2

On our next leg of this trip, we travelled from Saumur to Mont Saint Michel. As impressive as this little island off the mainland is, as scary it may be in high season when the place gets croweded with people. Nevertheless, I was positively surprised about this place. And going there off-season is well worth it and I was able to take pictures with little to none other people passing infront of the lense.
In the afternoon we continued our trip into Bretagne until Saint-Quay-Portrieux, a little cute village with a beautiful coast line. Though it was Sunday afternoon when we arrived, it was more than little difficult to find a place to eat something. (it seemed, we were really off season. After all the tourists from August and September have left and the French School Holidays not yet started, many restaurants were closed). But finally we found a little place that served us some delicious crepes and a glass of cider.

Etappe 1 - Leymen to Saumur

    October 7, 2017 in France

After having travelled to Canada, Japan and Singapore, it's time for us to discover places in Europe. In order to choose a place to go, we made a list of what the place should offer. I wanted to go somewhere near the sea, to take pictures of lighthouses and having nice coastal lines. Sylvie also wanted to enjoy nice food and wine and being able to bring the bikes with us. So, after a short reserach, we found the perfect place: BRETAGNE!

As we took our Bikes and my whole camera equipment, airplane was out of the question. So, we decided to use the car, which not only gave us the flexibility to stop where and when we wanted, but also lets us cross France and visiting places on the way, which I've never visited before.

After an early start, we arrived in Orléans just before lunch time. Around the river Loire we visited the castle Chambord, one of the biggest castles in the area. Apparently built for king François 1st, he stayed there only 72 nights in 32 years. The night we stayed in Saumur, a little cute town on the river Loire.

    Creux-du-Van

    August 6, 2017 in Switzerland
