    Dike Road

    June 17, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

This park, right on the Columbia, is right at “sea level”. I’ve seen signs that the river has captured a lot of the beach, with irrigation heads 4’ above the sand (where grass used to be).

So the name of the road to get here makes sense. “Dike Road”.

Walking Rosie this morning, the “dike” is clearly visible; with the farmland being a good 10’ below the dike.

The park is also way below the dike, BUT, it’s on the wrong side. So the infrastructure in the park is at risk, not a lot of structures.

Also, a sea-going tug came down the river, heading into Portland. About 5minutes after it passed, massive waves (wakes) hit the beach. It was easy to see how the erosion occurred.
